I want to fit a sliding door to my tiny bathroom.

I am going to buy a Henderson SDG kit but need to buy the door.

The door that is there now (standard hinged door) is 1981h x 680w x 34d - which fits exactly into the frame.

Am I correct in assuming that the door requried will need to be wider and slightly higher so it can run on tracks above the current door frame and have no gaps at the side when it is shut? If so, how much bigger, is there a standard size for a sliding door that I can ask for?

Thanks.

I once fitted a sliding door for just such a purpose. As long as the new door covers the area of the door opening plus a little extra so there isn't a gap at the sides you should be alright. The sliding mechanism should have adjustments so the new door can fit exactly and slightly off the ground. Your sliding door kit should have complete instructions so read the instructions before actually buying the door.

I'm not familiar with the brand your buying but Ive installed alot of sliding doors. Of coarse the first thing is to find out if you have enough room for a sliding door frame and if there will be anything to restrict the opening (wires, plumbing, heating ) in the area that will be the door and opening remember that the new opening will be the width of a door x 2. Most pocket doors are just normal door slabs. You can adjust the height to fit whatever door your using and width (depending on brands id guess) is determined in the instructions. Usually you install door stops around the sides and top when your installing the trim.

Depends on the type of sliding gear you are using, you could use the exsisting door simply by increasing the rebate on the closure side, also depends weather the door is sliding inside or outside of room.
If the suppliers have any brains then they will recommend a door size to suit your needs with the gear and door size that you are using.
