What does he like to do?
Buy him a gift certificate to a local pool hall for some table time (a family one, not one where people get shot and stabbed). Playing pool with family or the guys is always fun.
I'm in my 40's and I don't really need anything; I've been around long enough that I have what I need.
Is he a shirt and tie kind of guy? Buy him a tie that you like, and include the gift return receipt so that he can exchange it if he wants a different tie or item.
Does he play guitar? Buy him a set of new guitar strings.
Is he a barbecue kind of guy? Buy him something from Barbecues Galore, if you have one nearby.
Buy him a movie theater tickets, popcorn, drinks gift book.
Seriously, anything from my kids that they made any effort to choose with me in mind, is great. I don't want expensive things from my kids; just something that they think I would like.

I got this idea out of Family Fun Magazine. You can buy a very inexpensive clock at the dollar store. Then take some old pics of you and your family and cut them into small circles. Use 12 and put one on each number of the clock. Then glue a circle in the middle that states "We love you all the time". I fell in love with that idea and a lot of people have gotten clocks for Christmas. I used pics that were in the computer from a digital camera. But you can use any kind as long as you won't ruin them by cutting them in the little circles. Good luck!

Trendy gal what I am going to suggest is a really nice gift and is relatively inexpensive. Your uncle like everyone I know loves some kind of music and listens to the radio. What I would get him is a sirius radio. Sirius has these radios for under $100. Go to www.sirius.com and there are some good choices to choose from. He will have to pay the subscription fee, but I do not think he will mind paying for quality radio with no advertisement.

A magazine subscription. Some old-school magic tricks if he's a prankster (my dad always liked the farting spray and non-tearing toilet paper), a great book, a cocktail mixer, a DVD of an old western movie (I recommend Outlaw Josey Wales).
Lots of good stuff out there!

You can try giving him a Ferrari and if that's too expensive you can give him a toy model of the same.
