I mean honestly, it's there to make you feel better and help you lead a good life - what does it matter if someone else doesn't believe the same thing as you? it doesn't make any less valid or important to you does it?

If it made your life better to believe that you're visited by faeries every night then that's great, just don't get offended if someone tells you it's rubbish.

It's just that on these religion questions there are a lot of people getting all arsey about it if someone questions their faith.

Drugs make people feel better. Doesn't mean they're any good for you. There's a reason it's called the opiate of the masses.

Religion teaches people to doubt, to feel unnecessary guilt and shame, to repress, to discriminate, to act morally superior.

Because they believe, its that simple. And also because, with many faiths, if their religion is challenged then so is their entire life rules- for example, traditional Hindu communities are governed by the caste and class system: this is found in the ancient Law of Manu and dictates everything from your job to whom you can marry.

Also, amny religions (Christinaity, Islam) teach that those who do not believe have not received the true message of God: therefore wyou as a non-believer are not speaking through God and therefore not through divine Truth.

The reality iss that people investa lot in faith and to have that shaken or challenged can make people feel very uncomfortable and shaken. It is quie possible that those who get angry, as opposed to listening to your views with patience, are experiencing some kind of crisis of faith themselves: in that case it is human nature to react defensively.

If you're not religious (I'm not but I am studying world religion at Uni), then it can be hard to quite understand the level of trust put into a religion by a follower. But as outsiders we need to at least accept- if not understand- that this is absolute for them, and shapes their lives.

Religion is a hot topic, more so than politics. Just look at these two catagories. R&S and Current Events etc.

The Piety of the religious mind is the cause of the anger. That holier than thou attitude.
The delusion that they are so absolutely correct. They will not allow for other thoughts, ideals or religion because they are so very pious.
Sad really ;(

You have to put yourself in their frame of mind. They absolutely believe that unless they can convince you to believe in their God that you will spend an eternity in hell, suffering. If you completely believed that, wouldn't you be a little fanatical about it? If you believed you could help people avoid eternal suffering? A lot of them are about power but not all of them. Some of them truly believe they are trying to help. I was heavy into church for awhile, I get where a lot of them are coming from. Some of them are even close friends, in spite of my not sharing their beliefs.

It's fine to question it...but to bash it..that's another story altogether. I will always stand up for what I believe in.
I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ for it is the power of God unto salvation.
Jesus paid an ultimate price for us..and no way will I stand by and let others bash it. It's just called respect one for another..that's all.

its just because everyone thinks their beliefs are the right ones and alot of the questions are kinda "my religion is better than yours" when they are asked soo some people get offended. you just have to try not to take it to the heart

Everyone wants to believe that they are correct and others are wrong. This is less about religion and more about human nature.
