They believe because they're usually taught as children. We're biologically programmed to take information from our parents and elders unfiltered. If your parents and elders constantly indoctrinate you into religion, that can become a hard-wired dogmatic system that's very difficult to break free from.

Richard Dawkins compares it to a sociological virus.

For one, there is evidence (don't recall the study) which indicates that the human brain is actually "wired" to believe in some higher power. This makes perfect sense, when you consider the duration and sheer numbers of religious beings. I wouldn't be so fast as to call it all fake, as science cannot yet answer whether or not there is a supreme being, or how we all came to be in existence. Even if you follow the "Big Bang" theory, you still have to wonder how Carbon and Hydrogen atoms came into being, and how our universe got here in the first place.

You are absolutely correct. Religions are things made up by men to control other men. People believe because it is a lot easier to believe in and accept 'fate' as opposed to being responsible for your own actions and knowing that you are in the driver's seat concerning your future!

Do you believe there are things you can't see? - or understand? Do you believe in life on other planets? Do you believe in scientific facts? Do you believe life is an illusion? Do you believe in fairy tales? - in magic? Do you believe in love?

Many get a sense of belonging to something vast and powerful.
It is a kind of coping mechanism, a way to enter an altered state of mind.

It is as hard to get a person who believes to stop believeing as it is to get someone who does not believe to believe.

Thats fine, friend. We must all seek our own paths. There is no right and wrong path, only that which is true to YOU. May you be fulfilled and at peace always, in whatever you do.

It gives people comfort in their times of need. I don't believe as such and i occasionally feel envy towards people with blind faith.
