I would laugh to if someone told me that there was some butt whipping, all mighty muscular super being who has total control over my destiny.
Now God is a total different thing. He's nothing like that. I started to actually believe in God when he entered my life about 10 years ago. This wasnt taught to me by my parents. I opened myself to him and he's been my Father, my Mother, and my Best Friend ever since.

Ultimately, if you don't want anything to do with God, I believe he gives you the free will to do so and infact spit in defiance against him, you control your destiny in that sense. So you can go your own way, but i think you really don't know that much about him since you didn't make it past kindergarten sunday school. (I have to just assume it was christian).
You think that God does not exist because the description is ridiculous or contradictory. While I can agree that many people who carelessly believe in God. I dare not say that I am smarter and wiser than all Christians - I know that there are people far smarter and thorough in studies who have criticically examined not just the bible, but other historical documents and evidence to examine the claim of jesus as God. It would be arrogant not to give any weight to their credit without at least trying to investigate as an adult.
Yes I also believe in evolution and fossil record as real. And i believe that bad things caused by people happen because we are allowed to exercise free will in a selfish way - Love which was it's original intent, cannot exist without free will. I'm trying to thinking of other classic God-killers.
C.S. Lewis (author) was gifted mind and fierce atheist in his adult hood, but was confronted with evidence he could not refute.
Yes be critical and skeptical, keep asking questions and wondering how smart people aren't laughing at God. They're crying for people who have a lazy, flimsy faith. Smarter christians would respect your questions.

I do not attend church. I practice the philosophy of Christ on my own. I believe in God and I believe he comes in many forms. Its simple really, finite creatures have an inherent desire to believe in a creator. The universe began at some point, right? Anyway, I'm not a bible thumper although I do read the gospels from time to time, but humans are always looking for answers and always will. Budd-ah, Mohamed, Christ, Confucius, American Alien lovers, Scientologist, ect..
I believe in God because I am finite with a conception of time.
