I mean, aren't religious people a very bad advertisement for god? If he is a glum, dreary, rule-fetishist, narrow-minded and joyless hack, aren't we better off without him?

You are absolutly correct. My favorite bit about religion is the fact that when presented with scientic evidence, like the earth not be the centre of the universe. The planet not being the age they say or the process of evolution, dinosaurs etc etc. They always dream up an excuse. And that is what they are sad excuse for normal people.

I wonder if you would think I was glum, dreary, addicted to rules, narrow-minded and joyless. I doubt it. Many of my friends think that I'm generally happy as a rule, open-minded (though I have my limits, like on racism and prejudice. And I don't like having other lifestyles shoved down my throat.), and even though I live my life trying to follow the laws of the New Testament of the Bible, I don't expect others to do so. And I take JOY out of doing what I believe God wants me to do.
Sounds like you're describing the Puritans. I'm not a Puritan.
As a matter of fact, when I'm with my friends (Christian or not) we're always laughing and joking around! I think you've been hanging out with the wrong people!

I always thought the sex ritual was proof God had a sense of humor.

Watch a man try and be playfull with a woman not in the mood and watch her turn on him and break away. Look at the expression on his face. What'd he do. He just wanted a little!

If God had wanted it to be so, MAN would create from the Earth. Man would go out and touch the ground. Then Woman would go out and touch the ground. And baby would happen.

God could have done it with a handshake.

God could have made it this way. But God didn't. God decided man had to invade woman and did everything possible to make sure man was driven to invade and obtain pleasure from the invasion and woman had to do her best to keep from being invaded, least she make 40 babies in her lifetime.

Now we have the persued and the persuer and today we have sexaul harrassment laws, proving just was a sense of humor God has. Man has his natural God given inclinations and woman has him fired at work for drooling too much.

We are waring nations!

Just like two countries next to each other. An invader and a defender.

And we're supposed to be one.

Every guy in a bar knows what a good laugh it is to watch the young buck from work go after the cute waitress and get shot down. Crash and burn time.

God definately has a sense of humor.

God could have made it a cooperative, logical, nominal function. Man and woman say lets makes babies and they shake hands and it's done with.

I think it's also proof God exists and created.

It's virtually self evident if we take Science as a model and go to the origin. The single cell. How does it replicate. Cell division, it becomes elongated tappers and eventually one breaks from another and become two.

What is the point of orgin for mortar and pestile.

Not in this example.

In heterosexaul reproduction, using this evolutionary model mand and woman would have identical openings and would join and a seal would form between them and dna would be exchanged.

Where did parking the car in the garage come from in nature. Certainly not cell division!

Look how bubbles break apart and come together. There is NO male and female parts to bubble joinings.

That's a crazy design. It goes totally against natural development.

The process of egg fertilization is closer to my example. Round egg, oval sperm and the sperm simply penetrates and becomes one with the egg, which puts a had coating aroudn the entire sphere, breaking off the tail of the sperm. Then there's a DNA exchange.

The reverse of cell division.

But where did this crazy mating process come from, certainly not the Amoeba!

I could think of hundreds of more logical and better methods of heterosexual reproduction then attempting to stick something into another animal who doesn't want to be stuck.

That's a crazy concept!

My job is to get you out of your clothes, into a bed so I can stick something into you, feel good about it and make you have a baby that's going to make you fat and then you push it out a little opening when it weights 8 pounds.

That's crazy! Nature invented all this! Naw, someone with a sense of humor thought that one up!

Yes God wants us to be full of joy (John 15:11, 16:2; 1John 1:4; 2 John 1:12).
Religious Christian who try to obey God with their self efforts and man-made rules rarely have the joy of the Lord. They forget that the kingdom of God is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit (Rom 14:17). Christians who have an intimate relationship with Jesus, living in His grace and truth and entering into His rest will live in the joy of the Lord. They are the ones who seek first His kingdom and His righteousness. For the joy of the Lord is their strength. It is all about intimacy nothing to do with religion.

Most folks tend to mix up having a personal relationship with God and religion. Take it from me religion is politics and is hardly mentioned in the holy Bible, am speaking on behalf of Christians. And the fact is if you really know God intimately then you will always laugh even when troubled in spirit because for those who know and love the Lord all things work for good. I hope you get to know God intimately and get that sense of humuor

Lol. Very true. God creates man, with all his faults, and sets rules that go against basic human nature, and punishes his creations with the extreme curse of eternal pain (referring to the Christian God, of course.) I mean, it just doesnt make any sense at all. Where is God now? With all this death and destruction going on in the world. The entire human race would be better off without any religion at all, and by focusing on the reality, and on the psychological elements of human culture.

The question really becomes: If God DOES HAVE a better sense of humour than the religious people that you know of, WOULD YOU then BELIEVE IN GOD??

And, if so, will you then be preaching about God [with a sense of humour] also?

Peace be with you.

God does have a sense of humor and if you had a relationship with him you would know this! Other people do not project what God is like in that matter.... it is how they are! Judge no one as only God is suppose to do that! Live and let live! Love all that is !

God has a sense of humor. People who act like that are just ignorant. Look at the duck billed platypus, that's either a joke or a mistake, and God don't goof. I'm a Christian and face hardships, but I don't act like that. There's more to this life.
