I see churches giving out food to the needy but what happened to the line about,
"Feed a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, teach a man to fish a he'll eat for a lifetime."
So is the cost involved in education or medical attn too high in comparison to the value of the person involved?

I have had personal experience at my church where I was given assistance after being unemployed for MONTHS (during the Clinton Administration). I needed healthcare and my church paid the bill for me. They also provided me with a class to help me write a better resume, and how to have a more successful interview when job hunting. I have no complaints how my church helped me help myself. I guess it depends on what faith you belong to. I'm LDS.

The church is mandated by Jesus to do many things for the poor. If all Christians actually tithed 10% of their income to the church there would be no hunger in the world. Feeding the poor is one of those mandates. If the church actually taught the poor someone would complain because the teaching would have a christian viewpoint. Unless you want to feed the poor, I would be thankful that a church is compassionate enough to do it. I have served food in a church food line. Some were grateful and others couldn't be pleased. What do you do? Just keep on serving.
