Keep to the formula:
Crust, sauce, and toppings.
Crust is something you can buy in the grocery store, or if you're really adventurous, you could go for frozen pizza dough. You can also go to your locally owned pizza shops and ask if they'll sell you dough, most will.
Sauce is a great way to shake things up. Go down the pasta aisle in the grocery store. Yes there's tomato sauce, but you can also try pestoes, alfredo sauce, or even roasted red pepper sauce. Just remember not to put too much sauce on there, or you'll end up with a soggy pizza!
Toppings: The sky is the limit. Just remember to pre-cook any meat you're going to put onto the pizza. You can also pre-cook some of your vegetables, like sauteeing mushrooms, caramelizing onions and shallots, even roasting some garlic. Use fresh vegetables, remember thickly sliced vegetables will not cook all the way through, but to thin veggies will get limp. As for the cheese, I like to shred a blend of cheeses, and put a layer on top of the sauce first, then putting my other toppings on over that, then finishing with a layer of cheese. Try different kinds of cheeses. Remember, hard cheeses melt at higher temperatures, while soft cheeses melt at lower temps.
Just have fun, try a variety of choices. And if it doesn't work out, you can always call for delivery! :-D
Good luck!

You can go the easy route, making it on french bread, or bagle halves, or try pitas or flat bread. If you want it traditional, you can buy premade pizza crusts (baked or unbaked) or dough mix at the grocery store, your local pizza joint will sell you dough if you ask, or you can make your own.
Top it with whatever you like! Lots of red suace, just a bit of alfredo sauce, maybe even pesto... And go wild with the toppings and cheeses also. It's all open and up to you! The following recipes should get you started.

Pizza crust (makes 2 small or 1 large)
===========================
This takes about 2 or 3 hours, but the results are wondeful.
You can also buy a frozen crust.
2 +1/2 cups all purpose unbleached flour
1 cup of water, 105-115 F. (charcoal filtered or deionized to remove traces of chlorine)
1 pkg of dry yeast
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt (optional)
2 tblsp olive oil
Proof the yeast - add the water to yeast, stir until liquefied and let it start to bubble. Add sugar & olive oil, then start mixing flour into liquid, about 1/2 cup at a time. Add salt when you have added 1-1/2 cups of flour. Keeping mixing flour until you have a ball of dough that cleans the sides of the bowl. Depending on how much humidity is in your flour, you may use part or all of the last 1/2 cup of flour.
To rise the dough, lightly coat the dough with a spray oil or olive oil to keep the skin from becoming dry, and cover with a sheet of plastic wrap. Put the dough into a glass bowl, and let it rise in a draft-free location (I put it into a microwave oven - do not turn it on) and put in small bowl of hot water to provide warm, moist air. It should double in about 30 to 45 minutes.
When the dough has doubled in rising, lightly punch it down, knead lightly (actually fold it on itself a few times), coat with oil and let it rise again, this time for about 20 minutes.
Remove the dough, let is rest a bit, then roll it out on a flour-dusted board. You can par-bake the pizza dough for about 5 minutes, then remove and add your sauce and toppings, and give it a final bake.
Sauce
=====
I use a bottled pasta sauce straight from the bottle. Classico Tomato & Basil is a good one to start with. Using a large spoon, ladle as much or little sauce as you want evenly over the rolled pizza crust.
Toppings
=======
Cheese: about 8 ounces of shredded Mozzarella per 1 small pizza. You can blend other cheeses to your preference: Cheddar, Jack, etc. spread evenly over the pizza.
Meats: sliced pepperoni, salami, ham, pre-cooked/sauteed ground sausage, etc.
Vegetables: sliced red onions, tomato slices, sliced mushrooms, marinated artichoke hearts, bell peppers, black olives, etc. The list is only limited by your taste preferences and imagination.
Preheat oven to 400 F. If you have a bread or pizza stone, insert into oven - it will make a major difference for even baking. Sprinkle stone with cornmeal, or use parchment paper.
Bake pizza for 12 minutes at 400 F, and check crust for crispiness. When ready, remove from oven and let it cool a few minutes, slice and enjoy.

BBQ Chicken Pizza:
We love the contrast of flavors provided by sweet tomato chutney, savory chicken, and sharp cheddar cheese.
1 (10-ounce) Italian cheese-flavored thin pizza crust (such as Boboli)
3/4 cup tomato chutney
2 cups chopped roasted skinless, boneless chicken breasts (about 2 breasts)
2/3 cup diced plum tomato
3/4 cup (3 ounces) shredded extra-sharp white cheddar cheese
1/3 cup chopped green onions
Preheat oven to 450°.
Place crust on a baking sheet. Bake at 450° for 3 minutes. Remove from oven; spread chutney over crust, leaving a 1/2-inch border.
Top chutney with chicken. Sprinkle diced tomato, cheese, and green onions evenly over chicken. Bake at 450° for 9 minutes or until cheese melts. Cut pizza into 6 wedges.
Note: If you can't find tomato chutney, make your own. Combine 2 cups diced plum tomato, 3 tablespoons brown sugar, 3 tablespoons cider vinegar, 1/8 teaspoon Jamaicañ jerk seasoning, and 1 minced garlic clove in a small saucepan; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium; cook 20 minutes or untril thickened.
Yield: 6 servings (serving size: 1 wedge)

2. Pour yeast mixture into flour and mix to a soft dough. Turn out onto a lightly floured board. Knead for about 10 minutes or until dough is smooth and elastic.
3. Place in a lightly greased bowl. Cover with a tea towel. Stand in a warm place until doubled in bulk (about 45 minutes). Preheat oven to 220C.
4. Punch dough down with fist to release gas. Knead for a few minutes. Divide dough in halves for pizza. Press or roll out to form 2 x 30cm circles. Place on baking trays.
