I have to disagree with "Ignite".
NO WAY does North Korea & China have better missiles than the U.S. We DEVELOPED the Bomb. We were (most likely) the first one to strap the Bomb onto a missile and fire it. North Korea's so-called "nuke" was so little, it was called a "hiccup".
No, we are definitely are the most powerful country, with the most powerful military in the world. Why else would North Korea all of a sudden develop a problem with the U.S. We certainly didn't to anything lately to provoke them. Now they're acting all bad, wanting a fight.
We may not have the most fighters, and we certainly don't have a 4 Million man army, but our technology & exceptional training of our soldiers is what keeps us on top.

The ignorance of these answers boggles the mind. The most powerful military in the world is unquestionably the United States. The statistics given above, some true some false, are hardly an indicator of military strength. Assessment of military strength is far better reflected in quality of logistics, weaponry, and training then in numbers of troops, etc. While the United States does not maintain the largest air force or army, both branches enjoy the benefits of technology and logistics superior to any nation in the world. These force multipliers allow a big army (not the biggest) to take on the biggest. The United States navy is also the dominant force on the seas, in other words, it controls 70% of the world's surface.
"The United States is more powerful compared to other countries than any entity since Rome, and it is unlikely to be overtaken by other nations in the first half of this century."
- Joseph Nye, Dean of the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.
"The USA is already unchallengeable in terms of military power."
- William Wallace, Professor of International Studies, London School of Economics
"The USA is militarily dominant in a way that no other power can challenge."
- Paul Hirst, Professor of Social Theory at Birkbeck College, University of London
"What are the implications for us? That Europe either puts up - and accepts the American challenge - or shuts up and continues to play the role of complaining, yet compliant, junior partner to the hegemon across the Atlantic."
-Professor Michael Cox, Associate Research Fellow, Royal Institute of International Affairs
....goes on and on.

The USA is the most powerful. We may have smaller numbers in some area's but what we have is better and more powerful. There are no other countries with proven long range stealth bombers and fighters. There are no other countries that have the reach and reaction time of the USA military.
In the sixties the Russians were selling lighter and more dynamic fighters but our pilots were better trained 10 to1 KR. In Korea where they outnumbered us we had a 100 to 1 Kill Ratio. The kill ratio in Iraq is 1000 Iraq to 1 US.
Our missiles are the most accurate in the world. We could easily eradicate both Russia and China simultaneously, military exercises have shown this. Doubt it at your peril.

I had to answer this one because 'Jack' obviously has no idea.
The greatest military power is the US. Number of nukes are no indication since about 80% of the russian nukes are unuseable (most of the ICBMs are liquid fueled and have not been tested in years). The first war with Iraq proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that russian, french, and chinese equipment was totally outclassed. The Iraqi airforce with russian, french, and chinese state of the aircraft was destroyed in 1 week, with the only survivors running to Iran. The russian tactical manual was torn up by US commanders and the 4th largest army in the world was utterly destroyed in 3 weeks. Russian advisors have been quoted more then once in saying they would rather stick their D**K in a meat grinder as face an American army in the field. They also said they were really, really, glad they never fought in Europe. The russian navy does not even deploy outside of the Mediterranean now, and the chinese navy is a couple of subs.

The United States does have the greatest millitary strenth in conventional warfare. Now gurilla warfare like what we experinced in Vietnam and are currently in Iraq, and what the Soviets experinced in Afgahnistan is ussally were any army will get bogged down.
This is mostly due to us having to operate by a rules of engagement and the enemy that dosnt. Also its is easier in the public eye to excuse gurrila fighters for commiting atrocities in war then it is for a professional army.
In the times of the Romans these were never a problem, being that if a certain city was rebeliouse under their rule they simply wiped them out and no one said a thing. But today, with the speed the media is, it is almost impossible for any country to win a gurrilla conflict if there isnt a majority support for the cause and the enemy feels they have nothing to lose.

Don't be a fool we have the largest most powerful sophisticated military in the world. With 1,400,000 military personnel (not including coast guard), the most sophisticated technology, and the best training in the world.
Don't let hate mongers like Jack fool you he is just Anti-American not factual.

Sorry to tell you this, but USA is not even close to being the most powerful military power country. It is either China or North Korea with superior missiles and more personnel. But USA will have a high advantage because of its allies and military bases around the world (philippines, japan, germany etc....) If the USA or China had no allies or military bases, and they went to war against each other face to face with no other help, then China would have a easy win, just like England did in 1812.
