you probably don't really need 10 megapixels. The only reasons you need a high number of pixels is if:

1) You intend to create very large prints -- with 10 megapixels, you're probably talking about a 16x20 print (off the top of my head -- I didn't actually do the math)

2) You intend to crop a small section of the photo and make a print out of that.

A 6 MP camera will get you a very good 8x10 print. More important are the optics of the camera. Does it have a good quality lens? That makes a huge difference in picture quality.

Depends if you are going to do poster size print. If not, 6MP is more than enough. Even 6MP can print size like 20X30 no problem. I once print a 24X36 poster using my old 4MP camera and it came out just fine. Another factor is if you are going to do a lot of cropping of your picture, if you do, higher MP may comes in handy. Don't fall for the Myth that say higher Mega Pixel = better picture quality. Image quality have almost nothing to do with Mega Pixel what so ever.

Devoid of all the hype of Mpxls, higher ones are really not necessary unless you blow it up or crop them and enlarge the cropped one.

Regular, everyday use only requires a 5 and under. That's plenty. If money is jingling in your pocket go with 6 just for bragging rights. Other than that, 10 is an overkill.

Pssst.... are you a professional photographer, taking pics. of models etc..? that's a different story. You will not be asking this question anyway if you are pro.

in all honesty, if you plan on priting pictures, there is no printer out there (including commercial ones) that can handle something higher than 8 megapixels.

so go with what you think is economical for you, based on how much you will use it and for what reasons.

the more pixels there is in your camera the sharper your image will be.... I am using a 5MP camera and its really good enough if you are not a professional photographer......
