Well, that's a typical religious attitude and motivation you have there. We don't retain beliefs to gain things (or as in most religious people's cases to avoid punishment). And what is that we have that you don't have? Nothing, just as you have nothing that we don't have, save different beliefs. You can save your breath though because I, like you, will believe what I hold to be true until my last breath and NOTHING will ever change that.

Wow, I didn't think so many people would pick up on your "What do you have to lose"--- religion through fear and bribery, but I was wrong. No one should believe in something for the fear of not believing it. If there was and is a God, he surely would want NO part of those sort of scare tactics that plague the mind of the simple human until his dying day.

Sweet answer Panda. :-)

Johnbless, are you for real? Religious people are some of the sleeziest, most scandalous creatures on earth. And that brings me to another point. IF there was a god, he would be infuriated by this notion that we can do whatever the heck we want, and all is right as long as we confess! GIVE ME A BREAK!! That is why an Atheist that is also a good person, is the wholest, most righteous person on this planet. Doing it for yourself, your fellow man, and for the sake of goodness. BEING GOOD FOR GOODNESS' SAKE!!! Which reminds me, Happy Holidays. :-)

What do u mean athiest? I don't think anyone in this world is athiest. Everyone has a God and this God is culture. Even your Jesus is a product of nothing but culture. Religion is a product of culture. Dressing and food is a product of culture. Populations are products of culture. Now are you trying to disregard all these realities for a God based on theory? If you are, then you are stupid. You become even more stupid when you call people not believing in theory athiests!!!

This sounds like a last ditched effort to convert me.

I'll take a stab at it anyway. What would I Loose? I could be shunning my fellow humans just because they don't think as I do. I could have missed some great friendships that could have made the world a better place. What if a person prefers same sex relationships, but I do not befriend them because of it. What if a person wants to kill me because I do not think that Muhammad was a prophet. What if I send my child to a school where they teach that things divinely appear and that they do not have to investigate it further?

A great many atrocities can occur should I believe in a divine entity.

OK - qualifier: I'm NOT an atheist, BUT...

What do atheists have to lose? Nothing - if they don't believe God exists, they lose nothing by not believing. And they have the TRUTH - look up the history of the early Christian church and you will discover that the worship of Jesus as God is a distortion of history and don't blame me for this statement - I'm only the messenger. For me God is the natural universe - not a bunch of superstitious nonsense based on a 1,700 year old myth.

We would "lose" logic. intellect. self respect and sleep.
As far as what we have that christians don't have.
We have faith in ourselves and not in a self perpetuating fear of the unknown.
We have the security of knowing that there is no one to blame for our faults and misgivings, but ourselves.
We live every day without crutches and deeply believed excuses that some Deity will forgive us for something we must forgive ourselves for.
We at a minimum don't have to pay some collection plate for someone to tell us that god loves us, when we know for a fact that a loving god sure as hell would not let people die in mass of diseases, murder, war, rape and other cruel acts.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appeal_to_consequences

quote:

"Appeal to consequences, also known as argumentum ad consequentiam (Latin: argument to the consequences), is an argument that concludes a premise (typically a belief) to be either true or false based on whether the premise leads to desirable or undesirable consequences. This is based on an appeal to emotion and is considered to be a form of logical fallacy, since the appeal of a consequence does not address the truth value of the premise."

My mind/sanity, that's for both questions.

johnblessed01, that is so stupid.
Ppl become Athiests because they stop believing in god, not because we want to sin.
Your brainwashed to believe we're evil or something, so I don't know why I'm wasting my time.
But
(When I was a teen)
My bible loving/church going friend was a s.lut/drug user (who once laughed at me (a little) because I was a still virgin) and her bible loving mom was an adultress.--- So don't tell me that Atheists are sinners, okay ?

Well, the Atheists don't want to be a part of your religion. So, don't ask them anymore of these questions. I'm pagan, and I'm never going back to Christianity.

The atheists are acutally practicing this thing called "freedom" and people asking them to come join their religion will put them on a short leash. That would really suck.

They don't want to believe as we Christians do for the following reasons: Here are the pros and cons of it.
Pros:
1) Being atheist allows for less guilt and stress as there is no final accountability for sin to worry about.
2) It makes it easier to get a good night's sleep.
3) It allows one to enjoy the pleasures of life and go for the gusto as much as one is able.
4) It is the fastest growing plan. If popular acceptance makes something right then you're all right.
Cons:
1) It allows one to rationalize promiscuous behaviour, thus incurring all diseases, broken relationships, pain and emptiness that such sin brings.
2) By ignoring the reality of accountable sin in encourages fulfilling ones lusts, greed, and pride, not to mention the lack of honouring God. Therefore, when a person faces God on judgement day, his or her judgement is grimmer because the amount of sin is greater.

How about some REALITY and LOGIC...? *rolls eyes* Besides, why would I ever want to become just another sheep in the flock? I don't need a false sense of security. I outgrew fairy tales when I was eight.
