Cancer: Get Chemo and Radiation? Or Not?

My mother was diagnosed with having cervical cancer, she recently had surgery 2 months ago. The doctors are planning on an ?external? radiation for 6 weeks and then to start chemo for 6-8 months. At first she agreed but now shes getting second thoughts. Shes been talking to people and theysay to go in the direction of herbal medicine. MY QUESTION IS: What are good herbs to take instead of the medical treatments INCLUDE WEB SITES WITH INFO. I dont know what to tell her so i just listen to her talk but i would like info. I read that those that get only the surgery live longer than those that have the surgery and the treatment. IS THAT TRUE!

My suggestion - She should have chemotherapy and radiation therapy as per schedule given by Oncologist. There is no harm in giving Herbal medicine treatment also. Now read my experience -

We are from India. My wife 55 years old is also a patient of Cervical Cancer - Stage IIIB. It showed the signs, bleeding etc. two and a half years back. Our surgical oncologist tried surgery by after opening the area he found it not operate able condition. The tumor was of a size of melon and it was rather attached closely to urinary bladder and other organs. So he abandoned the surgery and subsequently 2 cycles of Chemo (mainly Cisplatin) and subsequently with 28 sittings of External Radiation. These were followed by two cycles of internal radiation (Interstitial Brachytheraphy) All these treatments had horrible side effects like nausea, diarrhea, urinary infection etc., etc., She is still, even after 2 and a half years suffering from radiation Proctirites (after effect of radiation) due to the high dosage of chemo and radiation given. Our oncologist had told that had we not given the treatment as above, she would not have survived.

I also gave medicines from a renowned Herbal Oncologist for about an year, as alopathy can be continued with Herbal or Homeopathy or even ayurveda medicines. Now the doctors say that the tumor has vanished but she has to suffer the after effects of radiation, for which there is no remedy.

I have mentioned all the above just for your information. Somehow prevail upon your mother to complete chemo and radiation without which the possible extension of life will not be there. Give enough encouragement and if necessary take her for counseling by an Physco-Oncologist. the expenses and suffering will be more and you have to continue as STILL CANCER IS AN ENIGMA and we can not neglect-

I commend you for looking for healthy alternatives to Cancer treatment for your mom. Unfortunately, herbs and such are to be used in conjunction with chemo/radiation not instead of. I'm a huge proponent of Integrative medicine. If you live near a large university, there may be an Integrative Medicine clinic nearby.

I'm currently going through chemotherapy for endometrial cancer(with cervical involvement) I had radiation(external) then one round of brachytherapy. All the while, I doing acupuncture, herbs, massage, yoga, meditation and anything that helped the side effects or my general quality of life.

I am a cancer survivor- thank goodness for the chemo and radiation that saved me!!!!!!!!!! She will be fine as long as she has the treatment. DO NOT GO WITH HERBAL TREATMENT- IT WILL KILL HER.

Western medicine,operation and chemo can only prolong your's life unless you discover it in the early stage. Please no herbs. They do nothing and your Mom must have cancer that is fairly advanced if they are prescribing chemo and radiation. Your Mom can die if she does not have the treatments.

Also, you need to look into getting the new vaccine for cervical cancer - please do.

Herbs are not going to kill the cancerous cells, she will need chemo no matter what. The cancer would spread if this process is delayed.

If your mother doesn't do as her doctors say, she will certainly die. Herbs do not cure cancer! Try to get her to listen to her doctors and not other people.
