Please place yourself in each of the following 3 situations.
How would you respond to each and why?
1. A school age boy comes to your door selling candy bars.
He's raising money for his class to go on a field trip.

2. The cashier at your local market asks you if you'd like to
donate a dollar to some charity, in exchange for getting your
name on a little piece of paper in the window.

3. A mother of 2 young children takes the only job offered to her, in her town. A minimum wage, telemarketing type thing. Only it's not selling anything. It's raising money for terminally ill children to get their last dying wish. She's assigned a child to try to help and given a list of computer generated phone numbers to call, in your area,
because the chld lives in your town. She calls you, explains what
is going on, and asks for a $5.00 contribution to help the child.

I suppose most people would donate
to the first two, but not the phone one...
just because it's easier to give money
to someone that you see and can assess in
your eyes if they are honest and also cause
they are in your face so you'll feel much
more uncomfortable letting them down.

First, the boy I would buy the candy, and second, I would donate the dollar to the store clerk. I would be leery about donating to the person on the phone, because I would question her motives.
