Surfboards generally cost anywhere from $400 to $600 depending on how good of a board you are going to buy. Obviously there are some cheaper and more expensive but this is a pretty typical range you should expect to pay on a new board. You can get a solid used board for $200 though. That would be my advice for your first one.

Wakeboarding: Boat ($10K - $80K), Board ($200 - $500), Bindings ($200 - $400), Rope ($50 - $120), Handle ($40 - $120), Cable Lake Park fee, no boat required, $20 - $40 a day, Season Passes available. Friend with a boat, $20 bucks for gas and beer. Really good friend with a boat, nothing, just show up and he brings all the equipment. (LOL)

Boat prices can be out of control. If just getting into the sport and want to buy a boat, buy a good used in the $15K - $30K range.

B-Money is right as far as prices for shortboards...$400-$600 is a fair estimate. However, longboards are closer to the $800-$1000. Also, there is a difference in price between custom boards and rack boards. A custom short will usually run you about $600-$800. Spyder makes reasonably priced customs.
