I agree with your verse. Who are we that can love ourselves, or our friends, but not love those that disagree with us.

I love some of the metaphors and prosodies of the Bible. One of my favourites is as follows, as I have a fondness for the Old Testament:
Leviticus 24:2-4
2 "Command the Israelites to bring you clear oil of pressed olives for the light so that the lamps may be kept burning continually. 3 Outside the curtain of the Testimony in the Tent of Meeting, Aaron is to tend the lamps before the LORD from evening till morning, continually. This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come. 4 The lamps on the pure gold lampstand before the LORD must be tended continually.

Jealousy is a sin and an evil.
9 "Neither shall you covet your neighbor's wife."
10 "Neither shall you desire your neighbor's house, or field, or male or female slave, or ox, or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor."
And yet God coveted those that believed in other deities and did force his will on them.
He also allowed slavery, though he took the Jew from it's bonds.
These are just some of my favorite verses.
It truly is frightening how many people follow a god that broke his own commandments.

I like the verse what lexi said and I also liked 11Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. 12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
