Because in most religions, the original language in which the religion came upon us, had mostly three pronouns...
like Arabic or Hebrew etc...
The 3 pronouns are he she & it.
He is for man or masculine,
She is for female or feminine.
& It is used for the THINGS on not masculine or feminine nature....
As Quran says in Surah Ikhlaas,
Niether he is offspring of some one, nor he has some child.
so both masculine & feminine nature are just plainly rejected...
What left is "IT",..
It is used for things which usually are not alive.....
Meaningly DEAD or just a thing...
So for paying respect, to GOD, "IT" is not used.
Similarly She is also not used as GOD dosent have feminine nature... GOD dosent give birth to offsprings...
NOW what is left behind is "HE"
AS There is no pronoun left which has no nature like feminine or masculine or which is used for dead things,
And ALSO, man has better & more powerfull or strong characteristics, we humans have decided to have a pronoun for GOD as what is supposed to be Storng or powerfull or better...
'HE"

Just Curious is the closest.
In Hebrew, the original language of at least the Old Testament, there are only two pronouns: Hoo (he) and Hee (she). All nouns are either a he or she.
A table is a he, for example. Cattle are she's. If there is a group of things and one of them is male, the group is a he.
The word for G-d is masculine, so his pronoun is 'he.'
Now the interesting thing, the word for G-d's presence, shekhinah, is a 'she.' In Isaiah when he says, "My holy spirit you grieved," that word, ruach hakodesh, is also feminine and takes a feminine pronoun.
In English, however, there is a impersonal pronoun, "It." SInce a presence and a spirit are impersonal, they recieve the it pronoun, and you as an English speaker miss out on the times G-d is called 'she.'

From all we know, He is not a he or a she.
He calls Himself He because of the primary characteristics which He exhibits are the ones that He gave to males.
Unisex and Women's Lib have muddied the water by teaching that God and everybody else acts like women are "less" than men. Women are not less, they are just different from men, they have different characteristics.....like the ability to have children.
Gal 3:28
28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Leave this answer to someone who actually believes in God like I do. God is a He because men hold the priesthood, which is needed to govern a world, and a universe for that matter.

He is better than It, and They would be confusing at least in English. If we had a common pronoun in the second person, we would use it but we don't. There was a female pronoun usage when referring to God's Wisdom at work but that was changed for questionable cultural reasons.
All our words a but inadequate symbols of a truth we cannot, but must, seek to express :-).

Here's an answer you won't get anywhere else.....I believe God IS a man...."and God made man in his own image"...something like that....but I think also that God has a feminine side, too also...what about MOTHER Earth....now the last I checked, "mother" meant female....this is not meant to be taken wrong, either.......but who created the Mother??...GOD....so he has to be a part of it....and she (Mother Earth) is definitely a "she"....

Because a man wrote the Book, and assumed that God was a "he". I'm sure he must have been wrong though, and is probably burning in Hell for his mistake.
