Cats see, and hear, in different ranges than humans. They also detect scents better than us. However, their brains are not as sophisticated, and usually act on instinct alone. This means they may be perceiving some sort of threat, or are practicing hunting skills.

Some people believe that cats can see things that we cannot - like ghosts. If this is true, then it could be one explanation for the sudden take offs. Have you seen the movie "Ghost" with Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore? If so, remember the scene when the cat could see Swayze's dead character...but no one else could see him??

Just being a cat. It's the hunting instinct coming out. Heck, they sleep all day and they're just burning off excess energy. They're having a bit of fun.

Most cats I know do this, particularly if they haven't been played with or been outside for a while. It could just be that he's got lots of energy and is burning it off.

Just another "yep, my cat does that too." Nothing new is going on (it seems), but it's really important to run as fast as possible to another room, and then sometimes back to the original room.

This cat is well vet-checked, so -- this one isn't doing it over fleas or ear mites or anything.

It's almost enough to make you wonder about the ghost theory...

Spirits inside your apartment. Nothing really to be afraid of. Just be weary, my dog use to flip out and do off the wall **** at my old house that my father passed away in.

fleas, get advantage flea drops from a vet, they are great, you just put the contents of the little tube on his shoulders and hes good for a month, and it will kill the fleas in your house too, just from being on the cat. its likely fleas in the carpet that are driving him nuts.

He doesn't do it for no reason. He has a perfectly good reason. You just don't know what it is. That's cats for you.

MINE DOES TOO!! Like total randomness. aha

One second she'll be laying down in peace, the next she'll be clinging off the curtains and prancing up in the air.

I think it means they have to pee.
