I have an 03 4Runner and I love my car. It's only got about 40k miles, but it's problem free. All I have to worry about is the oil change every 5,000 miles.

The only gripe I have with my car is the dismal mpg. It costs about $60 to fill the tank and the range is about 380 miles. I average 19 ,pg which actually is not bad for its engine size.

I have the 4.0 liter and it's plenty fast for me. It's got a lot of mid-range power and is faster than most 6 cylinder SUV's in it's class. If you don't mind the gas mileage, the 4Runners are excellent SUV's.

Last year Toyota had the most recalls, but the media "failed" to notice since millions would stand against them because of thier reputation. These days reputation is nothing, technology advances so fast it cant keep up. For ex: three years ago GM was one of the worst companies, now they have the most top-rated vehicles, and the quality/reliability surpasses Toyota. Honda is still on top of the reliability ratings. Ford also had more recalls than GM and DaimlerChrysler combined, for reasons like exploding engines and wheels falling off. Here is a quote from the Washington Posts review of the Toyota CAmry "one of which is the Chevrolet Malibu, which in my real-world driving experience has been every bit as good and reliable as the much-ballyhooed Camry but has been maligned primarily because it is a Chevrolet". Oddly enough that was an '04 Malibu VS the totally redisigned '07 Camry. Common problems with Toyotas are plastic rattling until it falls off. People then complain that when they take it to the dealer to be fixed they just say "The cars are made with so much plastic its practically impossible to fix" GM is also the worlds fastest growing manufacturer, and that doesnt happen by accident.

I just bought a 94 4Runner about 2 months ago, but I was only able to drive it a little bit, because I was trying to get it checked out at precision tune, get the oiled changed, and get a radio put back in (because the original had been stolen). I also still need to get the cable to the gas pedal replaced. But, it checked out okay at precision tune, except they said that it had two weak cylinders (not bad, just weak), and they said that it was probably because there is alot of carbon build up in the engine. But, they said that it is a really good, solid, dependable vehicle, which is why I bought it. There are some minor things that need some attention, but the only serious problem that I have with this vehicle is that a man rear-ended it two weeks after I bought it, and creamed the rear bumper. I can't afford to get it fixed myself, just yet, and His insurance denied my claim. I really like this car though, and I can't wait until I can finally get it back on the road.

I can speak about the passat. I have only owned vw's and currently have a 2004 2.0 Golf, a 2000 vr6 Jetta, and a 1967 Beetle. If the passat is the vr6 engine then 84k miles is great. That is the 12v vr6 and is an incredible bullet proof engine. I have 95k on mine and it is still going strong. VW's are a car you have to love because they do take more to own than most cars but they are fun to drive and they last forever. I am biased but would take the Passat over any of those, only if it have the VR6 engine.

I have a 2001 4Runner. It has 60,000 miles and has never needed any maintanence other than regular oil changes. I have no complaints about mine at all. Not only are they very reliable, they hold their re-sale value and in todays market it's very important.

i would buy one. Toyota's have been around for a long time and have always been known for there reliability. a four runner would be OK for its good ground clearance but also good for parking, there not as big as a full size four wheel drive.

They are good, solid trucks with a history of reliability. But so is the Nissan pathfinder, and usually for cheaper.
