I know what you mean. I just can't ignore all the inconsistencies and believe. Lord (assuming he exists) knows I've tried! Ugh..it's just so hard to ignore the things that make no sense and just believe.

If you want to try, that's a start. A desire to believe can grow into faith in God over time. Look for the blessings that God has given all around you. Cultivate a relationship with God through prayer. It's worth it.

I encourage you to read the sermon of the prophet Alma on this subject:

The sermon starts in the chapter in the above link, and goes on for a couple of chapters.

I would think that you are surrounded by non-believers, and that you have not had any personal experiences for you to contemplate.

Everything is easier to grasp when you have solid "proof", even if that proof is valid only to you.

My best examples include: When I was driving long haul, at one point I had changed companies, and was out of funds while waiting for the miles/payroll to catch back up to me.
I was hungry and needed to make a phone call home.
Before I exited my tractor, I prayed over the steering wheel for food and for the ability to make a 5 minute call, and as I finished my prayer, I put it in God's hands.
I then went up to the truck stop front doors, and passed a JB Hunt recruiter, While chatting with the recruiter, another driver walked up with a bag of fruit, and asked us if we wanted it.
I looked at the recruiter and he passed, I took the bag and re-invigorated, I went looking for 5 minutes.
I stepped into the phone bank and started checking left over cards. The first booth, I passed entirely, the second booth, had nothing available and at the third booth, (If I remember correctly)
had a number of cards that had been left behind. I checked the balance of them and found ONE with 5 minutes left.
BTW, that bag of fruit lasted 3 days for me, long enough for my paycheck to reach me.
This ocurred sometime in 1997.

More recently:

While riding in the car with my wife, I was extremely tired, and had my head down on my chest. She heard *my* voice telling her to slow down, that there was a deer in the road up ahead.
She slowed down and woke me up, I asked her what she was doing...She told me that I had told her to slow down....
As we came around the shallow corner, there was a deer in the middle of the road, and because she had her foot on the brake already, she was able to avoid the animal.

Proof to me (if nobody else) that there is a God, and that we each have guardian angels!

If you wish to learn more, pick up some books that deal with very young children and their near death experiences.
I mean the very young that have not learned to lie yet!

Try believing that God is something other than what has been described to you by other people. Find what God is to you.

To me it is happiness and love. Not a person in the sky, but if a person in the sky is God to you, I don't blame you for not believing in it.

I expect loads of thumbs down for this,, but oh well... here goes
go to a book store and locate the english tranliteration of the Quran by Yusif Ali... Just read it with an open mind.. Im not trying to convert you. Thats your choice.. Maybe you might become a better Christian for reading it... But there are some very inspiring words there even for others of other faiths...

Maybe your trying too hard. You dont have to be religious or go to church or even pick a religion. I made up my own beliefs. Just have to realize that there is a chance that a divine spirit exists. If you ever see a ghost it might help you to believe a little more.

Well, in times like this, it is really hard to believe...

In my case, I feel everything is such a waste. I at some point did not believe that God exists because you want this thing to happen or you want this thing to appear you want it to be but....trust me..

HE MOVES IN MYSTERIOUS WAYS

It's kind of like Santa Claus... kind of hard to believe in him again once you don't.

Stop trying to reverse logic and embrace the fact that you grew up.

There is nothing wrong with you. Most intelligent people don't believe in God.
