Do you mean something like, "Photography adapts over time to reflect changes in attitudes and culture?"

Or are you saying that, "While photography adapts over time to reflect changes in attitudes and culture, certain constants weave throughout each generation?"

What a fantastic topic! The 60's and early 70's were a great example of this. Photography changed from the classic photos of the 50's to a darker art form that reflected people's attitudes about the Vietnam war, the widespread use of illicit drugs, distrust of the government and authority, and an emerging sexual freedom.

But there was still the consistent desire of humanity to connect with the natural world as reflected in the popularity of Ansel Adams.

We all see the world through the lense differently. The idea that all things change is probably referring to the new programs whereas you can take imperfect pictures and make them perfect, ideal. You can put two subjects together so thay look like one picture. Are the pictures any less real? No. They are the same picture taken in a different contest. Visually photogaphers can change the world...and still keep it the same...

Interesting subject matter, technology has changed in how we take pictures, and manipulate them. What makes a picture interesting has not really changed, examples, (Love, war, dramatic events, extreme emotions), a photograph that delivers strong emotions to individuals viewing it, is what has remained the same in photography, that is a constant, in this changing world of ours.

A photograph; that makes us smile, or laugh, or feel sad, or mad, that brings us to tears, or forces us to contemplate, is a successful photograph, no matter how the image was recorded.
