I've heard this expression often.
Now I'm wondering about it.
According to Christians, we all really deserve to go to hell and be tortured forever. So what kind of treatment would we NOT deserve?
So shouldn't Christians be careful to never say this statement anymore?

Yes I have. Especially concerning abuse of innocent victims of any crimes. Who is "we"? Do you think that someone who has murdered scores of people like Hitler deserves hell? Yet, in God's eyes, all sin is deplorable that is not covered by the blood of Jesus. He made a way for you and I to be saved no matter if we've sinned "little" sins or big sins. What people deserve in the next life is their decision. The condemnation isn't what Jesus came for but to seek and save that which was lost. Therefore, the condemnation is this; that you reject the Savior. It's a matter of choosing to be on the side of good or the side of evil because one cannot serve two masters so if you choose the wrong one, expect to spend eternity with him, all the while knowing you could have been in heaven with the Lord.

I have a problem with "we all really deserve to go to hell and be tortured forever". I think that this leads to much of the hatred and animosity that exists between people.

The Catholic view is that we all have a fallen nature and a tendency to sin and that all have fallen short of the glory of God. But we also have a God that loves us even if we are not perfect. God does not want ANYONE to go to hell and suffer. We are made in the image of a caring and loving God and that means that we can be loving and caring just as is God.

We do not use the phrase "no one deserves that kind of treatment" often enough. It should be said about every homeless person on the street corner begging for money, even if the money is going to go to booze or drugs. It needs to be said about every person who is hungry, poor, alienated, and lonely. It needs to be said about every person who is on Death Row.

There are 300,000,000 people in the United States and 6.6 billion people in the world. Each and every one of them is made in the image of God. Each person is a creation of God and deserves the dignity that comes with being a creation of God.

To me it is very disturbing that more value is placed on a painting by a dead artist than on the life of a starving child in Africa.

NO ONE DESERVES THAT KIND OF TREATMENT

Not all Christians believe in Original Sin. And there is a difference between not being saved and being tortured forever!

Agghhhh, after reading 'according to christians, we all really deserve to go to hell..." made me actually mean 'no one deserves that kind of treatment"!
Wow, have christians really said that? Sometimes I feel we land ourselves too often in the hot seat and have difficulty getting out!

Yes, but I am just a man no better or worse than any man. How dare a man mistreat another person for something that they are probably guilty of also. Nobody is perfect but God. When I measure myself against God, I deserve to go to hell. But the good news is "While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

Well I am a Christian and I have never said that we all deserve to go to hell. I don't know about your god, but mine is a God of Love.

I must say, I like how you change up your avatars.

No one should go to hell, but the choice is entirely theirs. It is a shame that the path out is easy, but few ever find it.

I know this is not the popular answer, but it is the truth from the Christian perspective

First of all - I didn't say that people who don't accept Jesus deserve to go to Hell. Who goes to Hell is up to Him to decide.

Second of all - if you are so certain that Jesus isn't real, then why would waste your time talking about it?

It is true, according to the Bible that we all deserve eternal damnation but that judgment is for God ALONE to give. No human should have to endure hatred and disrespect by another human.

Blessed Be

"For ALL have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God."

"For the wages of sin are death."

"But, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

"Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins."

"Christians" did make up the rules, nor are we in any position to change them.

The Creator made a way for us to become righteous in His eyes - sacrifice. Then, when it was more than obvious that we couldn't sacrifice enough to cover all our sins, He sent the Perfect Sacrifice.

All that remains, now, is for people to trust in Him.
