I had a love/hate relationship with Santa until I was 8. I liked Santa because he brought me presents, but he scared me too. He had a big booming voice, and he sneaks into your house at night...something that we try to prevent other people from doing! According to the song, he sees you when you're sleeping...therefore, he scared me.

My boyfriends neice was petrified of Santa up until 3. I was asked to take her to have the photo done by her mother all the while she was saying that she didn't want to see him. I gave her my necklace I was wearing and told her it was special because it protected her from bad things. I then told her that Santa was a person too, and that she could tell him " You really should shave your beard because it makes you look really old". At this she laughed, sat on his knee, and the first words out of her mouth were " you look really old, you need to shave" Even Santa laughed. It is the first and probably only photo with Santa where she has a really big grin!

Boy did your question bring back a memory! My now twenty year old son absolutely screamed bloody murder when he saw Santa at the age of three. My tactic? I decided there was really no reason why he had to see Santa. The next year he was fine. I decided a photo wasn't worth him being traumatized. He loves Santa now. ;-)

My first son was never scared of Santa or any costumed figure. My 1 year old was terrified though. He screamed bloody murder when we sat down next to him and was literally shaking. I just held him and got the picture taken of him screaming. It may not be very cute but it will be a funny memory.

Yes my daughter was scared too. Reason is they are in a costume and they are a stranger. Just ease him in. Perhaps you take several trips to the mall and maybe he only gets sort of close to him. Or your best bet is watch a special about santa and go to library and get out books about Santa. Your kid is acting perfectly normal.

Sigh, yes. My daughter is 7 and she avoids Santa like the plague, which has always disappointed me because I loved visiting Santa as a child and we're missing out on some great photo opportunities.

My daughter is 4, this is the first year she sat on his lap & did not run away screaming. But my 2 year old did, so it wasn't all fun.

No, but I am. I passed by him the other day on my way to the food court and he was on break sneaking shots of peppermint schnapps and staring at me with an evil grin on his face.
