I think my bellyring is infected again for the second time. The doctor i went to today said i am allergic to the metal in the ring (its stainless steel though) and refused to give me antibiotics. She said that i need to just take it out. Well its out now but what it looks like is red around the top hole and swollen..and i have had some pus come out not alot. It hurts a little if its bumped. Is that infected or allergic dermatitis? Should i put antibiotic cream or hydrocortisone? Are some people allergic to stainless steel? If i leave it out will i get a huge scar? It sounds so stupid but i am sad to get rid of it..i don't want to. How long can i leave it out before it closes? Can i give it a break overnight if i have only had the piercing for 6 weeks? I just don't know. I would really appreciate a response from someone who might have some answers for me who maybe has been in my shoes! Thanks so much!

My belly button ring took like 2 months to completely heal. It had puss and was red and swollen. I took out my ring and used peroxide to get out debris. Some people just take longer to heal than others. By the way, you better get the ring back in quick, they can heal in a matter of several hours. Hang in there and keep the ring, I promise it will heal. If you do have an allergy, I don't think you do, you can always go to a tattoo parlor and they can give you a plastic or monofilliment belly ring instead.

I had my nose pierced and my body rejected it so I was told to take it out immediately and I could get it re-pierced later on the other side but never in the same spot. Some peoples bodies just don't do well with piercing. The best thing to do is take it out, and instead of antibiotic creams that have a shelf life of a couple weeks use sea salt, it's natural and also the best and can be found in almost every grocery store in the bulk section. Just dilute a couple spoon fulls in water and dip paper towels in it then hold it to the piercing for 20 minutes or so, trust me it works!! my redness and swelling left within a few days and the piercing healed completely with no scar at all.

I have had my belly button pierced for 5 years. It should not take 4 months to heal. Mine only took about a month max. It sounds like it's irritated or either you are allergic to the jewlery. Make sure you wear clothes that won't rub on it bad. If you have a hoop ring I suggest getting a regular barbell. Clean it 3 times a day with witch hazel, it's the same as alcohol but no stinch or sting. When you shower try to avoid using shower gel around it and instead use a antibacterial soap.

It's infected if you are getting pus. It needs to be removed and put neosporin on it. The guage of the ring is probably too small OR you may have an allergic reaction to the steel.... get it redone and get a hypo-allergenic ring put in. They are usually coated.

usually they say not to take it out until you see your doctor but i'm not understanding why they won't give you anything for it. maybe try going to the person who pierced it, maybe they can help you
