I've noticed this too, in my past, I used a lot of coke. Some of the people I got high with would actually cover the windows with foil. I always thought that was crazy. I never once got paranoid, but seen lots of people react this way. I just think it has something to do with your brain chemistry. Jeeze, this question brings back really old memories. I had a friend who would stay in his closet and smoke crack. Thank god i quit! It's been 10 years, at least.

Did you ever watch the movie "Goodfellas"? You'll notice that when the main character played by Ray Liotta got deep into the addiction he became very paranoid. That is very common. Depth of addiction plays a part in this as well as the person's own body chemistry and reaction to any drug, pharmaceutical and legal or illegal.

You have to factor in the amounts and length of use.
also if you were doing something illegal maybe you should be afraid of arrest and prison for real.
