DEAR HEART:
No, its horrible to beat your children and its also against the law and they can be removed from the home. Yes, a tiny swat is okay for a little one, an attention getter to stop them from touching a hot stove...but beating...no, no, no.

I think, even a little pat on the butt is horrible. What you are basically telling your child by doing that is that hitting and violence are ok. Also, to me, it is any easy way of punishment. Think about it, and spank on the tush that takes 5 seconds, or standing in the corner for 5 minutes. To a kid, 5 minutes is a long time, which has a greater effect on them. I would never hit ANY child at all. It is just wrong. There are many other ways to punish a child.

I did discipline my children when they were little. I spoke in a firm voice first. If they didn't listen, I gave two swats on the behind or one hard smack on the back of the hand. I didn't have to do this very often.
I think that I have 3 very well behaved young ladies who know how to act in public and who never give me any trouble because I taught them when they were young.
I think that there is a line that should not be crossed like hitting a child anywhere other than the behind. Unfortunately, some children are abused. But not all discipline is abuse.

No, I do not think it is right to smack around a child. I was smacked around as a child and it did not solve anything, but made me and my brothers more angry at our parents and now as we are adults our family has become torn apart from all the abuse. It took me and my brothers years of healing and therapy to overcome our insecruities. This was all because, we didn't take out the garbage, pass a test, said the right words, or just acting like our ages. We (us beaten children) will never forget those whippings. They stay and haunt you for the rest of your life.
There are other effective means to discipline a child then using the hand or mental abuse. Hitting does not solve anything no matter what people think.
Please parents...think twice, three or more times before you raise your hand to the child. Think...was it worth it to hit your kid? Did it solve anything? Or just make your child resent you.

There is never an ok time to beat anyone, especially a child of any age. And of course I do not beat my kids or grandkids. It is wrong. If you are or know a child that is being beaten, report it. You may be saving a life.

I don't have kids, but I have a nephew.
BEATING is never all right.
A light spanking, though, is sometimes the only way to get them to pay attention. I'm concerned about doing even that too often, because I worry about the risk of teaching him that hitting is okay. I generally only spank if he's being violent with ME, like hurting me unintentionally after I ask him to stop doing whatever it is that hurts. After one pat he starts bawling and I can tell him that's how I felt when he hurt me.

Absolutely not!!! that being said, I believe there is a difference between beating your child and spanking your child. I don't think a spanking is the cure all or should be the only way you discipline your child. I think if you ever administer a spanking while angry, then it becomes harmful and abusive.

Parents must always have a control on the child. If the child becomes stubborn, make him understand with soft words. If spite of all this if he doesn't care to obey, just give him a slight beating. But make sure it doesn't hurt him emotionally.
If we give them excess freedom, its harmful.
Always consider children as FRIEND. make them feel that they are important. But limits shouldnot be crossed.
