Jesus made this statement to the rich man when rich man wanted Jesus to send someone here on earth to warn his people and etc. However there was this gulf separating Larazarus and the rich man and anyone that knows, I would apprciate it. I just thought someone would know if I did not know.

The gulf denote separation. The rich man did wrong in his lifetime, the Lazarus suffered and did what was right. The gulf represents that they not only did not go to the same place when they died but you could not get from one place to the other. May God Bless

First we must understand that Jesus here is using a parable to illustrate a lesson that once a person is dead he does not have any more chance to return to life. Second that if people who are living now do not want to accept the messengers, or the prophets, or their writings which they can read, they will not believe although somebody from the grave is sent to them.
So chance for repentance in only on this life. The rest of the details in the story should be taken as pure figure of speech, and must be compared to other parts of the Bible.
If the parable is literal, there are too many contradictions there.
The term on Abraham's lap is only figure of speech meaning saved. You do not expect that Abraham's lap will be so big that adults like Lazarus will be able to sit on it without hurting Abraham. If the fire is so hot, it would be riddiculous to send somebody to come with a drop of water on his finger to quench the thirst of the rich man. If it is so hot, not even a tankerful of 5000 gallons of water will be enough to quench his thirst. It will be evaporated before it reach the object. Then, if it is so hot, how can his tongue be functioning and be able to to utter words.
2 Peter 3:10,; Malachi 4:1-3, and Revelation 20:9,0, all mention that the heat is so great that the sinners will be turned into ashes, and nothing will be left of them.
The gulf is only a symbol that the separation is final it cannot be takern literal. Because if that is taken as literal than the distance between heaven and hell is very small, only a narrow gulf, which still allow those who are in hell comunicate with those who are in heaven, and they can hear each other very well. That would be bery uncomfortable for people in heaven. It would not be heaven at all, and it means sin and its result will still be seen and remembered, contrary to the other parts of the Bible wich says that former things will not come into rememberance any longer, all the things of the past will be forgotten.

Heaven is separated from Hell.
The reason Jesus would not send someone back to earth to warn is that we've been warned enough already by Himself and the prophets. He said if they didn't believe them they'd not believe anyone else either.

IT is how we know that you can not go back and forth between heaven and hell.No purgatory.Heaven-Hell.
LAZARUS was the poor man who sat outside the rich mans gate, begging. The Rich man did nothing for Lazarus. Now that he knows that hell is real the rich man wants Lazarus to leave heaven and go tell his brothers. But Abraham said no.<><

There is no return from Hell. It is for eternity.

It was Abraham he was talking to and he wanted to go warn them. Abraham told him they are already warned in scripture.

Each final destination is just that, you cant run errands to the other side to say "hi" or to help out. wherever you end up is where you stay.
