I had a Canon Powershot S3 IS for about 3 weeks. It takes awesome pics, but I really didn't like the overall design and feel of the camera, that coupled with the fact that the rubber cover over the viewfinder came off when I was putting it into my camera bag, alongside the lenscap always flopping around and being in the way, caused me to not have a good experience with it at all. The thing is though, I really like Canon products, just that camera's overall design really didn't give me the impression of a durable and easily used product.
It is loaded with some very cool features, but it just didn't feel good in my hands. I took it back and got the Nikon D70 which is a Digital SLR, but wow....it really feels like you're holding something useful and durable.
Good Luck, hope this helped.

They are 2 exclusive varieties of cameras. The S3IS is exceptional- however it is getting a little bit lengthy within the enamel (that suggests it is an older mannequin). the S3 has a colossal zoom lens, so it could be a feasible alternative when you wish a colossal zoom (chook looking, exercises, candids). the A640 is exceptional, however extra pixels is not continuously larger. Look on the A570 or A710 which each have photograph stabilization, the 710 having an extended zoom. Other than being a 'newbie' you have not particular your demands, cost variety, measurement selection or use. There are many exclusive cameras available on the market. Hard to prefer one for you except we all know extra

Yes, I think the Canon S3 IS is the best one next to DSLR. You can take almost all kinds of pictures with that camera. And you going to love the 12X zoom with the IS.
