I personally respect that. I'm glad that you have recognized all of the problems... now its the hard part, following through. Work hard and set time aside for your studies, at LEAST 1 hour a night. Work your way up and you will be a sure A student by the end of the year.

aight this is what you do. I too am a sophomore and having bad school habits. I am now improving.
1) are you getting enough sleep.
where I go to school, the teachers are hard A S S. They assign lots of homework.(at least 3/4 of the people at my school are taking advanced placement or International Baccalaureate but still, even the regular teachers assign alot of work) so I stay up late to do homework so I don't get in trouble the next day. To keep from being tired at night while I do homework. I take a nap after school for 30 mins. for the long nights when a large paper is due , coffee is made
2) are you dating anyone?
I know that this is tough, but if you are dating, you'll have to put your relation on pause for a little bit. try to keep dating to a minimal. and if you go to the same school as your boyfriend or girlfriend (i can't really tell by your pic I'm sorry) and have same classes, try to sit in desks with some distance. flirting at break and lunch is fine, but if you got a large test soon, I'd keep the flirting to a minimum. I know it is tough to stay away from your date, but if you don't want to be a failure anymore, you will have to chance that relationship
3 when doing homework are you being distracted in your room?
I have this problem, I get easily distracted. My computer is mostly an enemy to me. I use my comp to type my reports and papers, and to check grades and homework online. but sometimes I sidetrack and go on Instant Messanger or something. what I'd suggest is go down to the dining room table where your mom, siblings, or sitter is. If no one is home. still go there. isolate yourself from everything else. Disconnect the phones. Turn off your cell phone. Cut yourself off from distractions
4) are you fed properly? You should eat something before you study, food gives you energy and I myself cannot work on an empty stomach. when you get home if you are following my nap idea, eat a 5-10 minute snack and go take a nap. don't waste too much time eating.
5) Excercise? Exercise is good. it gives you energy and gets the blood flowing. When I'm studying, I find myself dozing off. that is when I do short exercises. I like to do pushups to get my blood flowing. not like 30-50 pushups, just 10 quick ones. get your blood pumping
6) mint helps. There are tests that have been taken. mint helps stimulate the mind and helps you work more diligently. I like to chew mint gum when I'm studying. that way, the chewing keeps me awake and I'm getting the minty flavor.
I hope this helped you out. These 6 tips i learned from my older brother who went through the same thing and some of them are from experience. Remember, these are tips and can help you, but in the end its all about character and willpower. Good luck with your grades.

Make a goal for your future, and aim for it. Aim high so you have to work harder to get it.
Take it from me you want to do your best otherwise you'll regret it. It's the easiest time to get it done. I drive by the Cal State College and I feel so envious of those people. I wasn't interested a bit in school, and didn't care at all what I did. My parents could care less either which is sad. Now I am 28 with two toddlers, and I can barely make it. The best thing I got out of it is now I know how to do better for my boys.
Good luck. Bust your buns and you can get whatever you want. Make your mother, and friends envious of your success.

First of all, don't be so hard on yourself! You should be proud of yourself actually. You have admitted to your past mistakes and taken responsibility for your actions. That is just what it is, your past. You admit that you don't have the best track record when it comes to school. So it would be understandable that your teachers and your Mom may not believe your are serious about changing, right? When your teachers and Mom see that you are serious about turning yourself around, by finishing and handing in your homework on time, attending class and participating, then believe me you will see a change in them towards you as well. A teacher;s job is to educate. But it is discouraging to them if a student doesn't do his work, or misses class on a regular basis. They will help the ones who help themselves. So again, by turning yourself around you will show them that you are serious and you will gain their respect as well. As for your Mom, every parent wants their child to get A's. Do you think that is asking too much of you? It tells me that she has faith in you and she knows that you're capable of doing it if you just apply yourself. Right now you can still turn this around and get your credits, so you can attend a good college. I wish you the best. I know it's not easy being a teenager.

Well I forget to write in my assignment notebook too ! Lol Is there something that you LOOK in every single day? Maybe something like a wallet or a purse. If so, then rip out a notebook paper and write ur hw down and then stuff the paper in it (if ur reading a book this week then stuff it in there) That way when u go home, you'll remember to do ur hw. Good luck ;)

If you really want to show the world that your not a failure than show it!! You probably got into bad habits because you experienced how being lazy can be fun. I've done that a lot too. But I always got my head straight and got all A's. In other words, try not to be lazy and do all your work. NO EXCUSES!!!

hello.
so how are u feeling now? i guess you're suffering from lack of motivation. you need a change, which will be more of intrinsic nature. dear, just remember one thing, do what you love to do... and you'll love the life and the world.
okay... so you're trying to get rid of your habit of running away from studies, right?
try this out... from all the subjects... pick one that you like most, if any. then, try to find what does lie within. i mean, try to generate interest in it. i know its tough, but it will build gradually.
for example, if you like science, and you find some amount of interest in any of the topic, try discussing it with your friends, your mom, or any one who might be interested. just discuss. it will arouse further interest to know the things. but, don't take the things as they are, don't take it for granted. remember, there's always something more of everything that we know. and that little interest you develop will encourage you to learn more.
dont ever learn to pass the exams. dont ever learn to 'complete' an assignment. its the 'interest' and 'something more' that will really make you learn.
but, first and foremost, you need to alter your habits. i suggest you to read some books like "who moved my cheese" or "winning habits" or "alchemist". believe me, it helps.
you need to develop habits that will make you a true winner, and for that, you need to do what you love and love what you do. you need to add extra value to everything you do.
say, if, your school timings are the noon hours. then, just before you go to lectures, do some reading. try to force yourself to read. initially you may/wont like, but later, the interest in subject will be developed. further, at the end of the day, roll back to activities you did, and examine them. it wont take much time, hardly ten minutes, may be before going to bed. take note of activities you did, evaluate their results, and keep a track. i know it sounds boring, but it will work.
and to make it more interesting, you need a goal. may be coming on 1st rank in class is what you want. then determine a time-frame. when do you want to achieve this goal. mostly it will be the d-day - the exam day - when you need to perform. and remember that you need to add extra value. so, for each of your subject, do something more, that *others may not be doing*. say, the subject is history - then for each of the topics that you understand or don't get at all, go to google or wikipedia.
no one else would be doing this. and it will give you better edge. doing this on regular basis will ultimately lead you to a position where others will not be able to arrive, atleast not that rapidly.
and you'll be the winner. once you'll be winner, you'll love the habits you developed. and you'll yourself nourish them.
finally, its not just bad school habits (bad being a relative term, puts a questioin mark on whatever i understand and you take) that will be eradicated, but its a life-time winning habits you'll develop. so, stand up and start walking, the finish line is yet to be crossed.
peace.
