I think that it should be available to whomever wants it, however I don't think that everyone should utilize gene testing. For example, during my pregnancy the Doctor wanted me to have AFP (alpha feta protein?) to detect birth detects in my unborn child. I chose not to have the test since I had no intention of aborting my child regardless of the test results. But I have a friend who said even though she wouldn't abort, she would want to know of any birth defects ahead of time so she could prepare. So it's a personal choice. Plus, you never know when a cure or prevention will be found and maybe these diagnostic tests can help further that research. But again, its a personal decision.

... not everyone enjoys their disorders. I am sure some would appreciate if others could be saved from the complications/symptoms they suffer.

On the other hand,.. it's hard to get help because Bush is cutting/halting all research so he can fund the War (then the troops don't see the money,.. so I guess there is alot fo disappearing money). There are alot of paranoid people that think babies will be aborted for the soul purpose of this kind of testing *rolls eyes*. There might be some people that will hold a grudge because they suffer from something and cannot be cured while others are kept from their suffering,... this is alot more rare then the idiots that think fetuses are aborted for testing think.

Now the ground everyone ends up running around on is the testing unborn, while in the womb, then decideing to "fix" them at birth OR customizeing offspring before they are even in the womb. ALOT of people believe these are problems and are against testing for fear of Custom Babies.

Added: Marcie S some people also use that to find ways to counter the problem while the baby is still in the womb so it is healthy at birth or after the first two years (not that that is what people think about).

It should be available, but someone should see a genetic counselor first because they know how to give the person the basic facts and options without swaying their opinion on if they want to know or not.

Of course. I'm for most any kind of testing if it will save more lives than the research sacrafices.
How do you think we got today's cures?
