First of all, I don't claim to fully understand the Bible, nor do I claim to be an expert in any of the above-mentioned sciences. However, I do not believe that one can understand the Bible without the help of the Holy Spirit. And, as such, a non-believer cannot have the Holy Spirit upon them, because the two are not mutually exclusive.
Frankly, I'm glad that a non-believer does read the Bible. I just wish they were doing it for the right reasons, rather than just picking and choosing quotes from Law and Gospel in order to seem smarter, or to make Christians seem dumb. The Bible should be taken in context. Unfortunately, some Christians take the Scriptures out of context, too, because they are so worried about defending their point of view that they don't take the time to pray for understanding.

I totally agree with you. Anytime I bring up inconsistencies, contradictions, errors and wrong prophicies in the bible I'm told that I couldn't possibly understand the bible as a non believer because I don't have the holy spirit. It's not snobbish...it's rubbish. It is a prime example of the circular reasoning and lame excuses that they use to defend their faith. Most of their "expertise" in any field of science comes from what they have heard from the pulpit or Fox news. It is a rare christian that has even read their own bible, let alone something scientific.

Perhaps you have understanding of the bible. Some folks, however, take a verse or two out of context to make a point and they have it all wrong. No one understands all the bible, that is why it has to be studied for years and with God's wisdom. I find too many are using it inappropriately, just to prove a point.

The bible is the greatest revelation of God to us. Even i, myself, as one of the christians do not really say that i'm an expert of it, instead the bible is my ultimate guide to my life, belief in God is the best source you can ever have since God created all of us here on earth.
So, if you ever felt being snobbed by a christian, that christian certainly don't know that he is degrading himself.....as a christian, we encourage others to follow God not to dismiss them by by being snobbish..
and about biology, geology, cosmology? Well, there are evidences about them in the bible. Ask a bible scholar about it.

That is because some christians are caught in a lot of praising god more than the reading of his word sometimes. Although they do read, only not often. Then there are a lots of non-christians that knows the bible better than some christians but do not live the life of a christian.

Anytime people of faith, including all the various faiths, approach you with such judgmental arrogance, it is simply a reflection of their own uncertainties and insecurities. In general, most are not well educated concerning their faith, and/or are using their faith to lord over other people to feed off of some power/ego trip.

If you were single I could tell you what it was like to be married, you could even read a book about marriage, but you really wouldn't understand it completely until you were married. It is the same way with Christianity. I don't believe anyone is trying to offend by saying that because I could say the same thing about myself.I thought I knew what Christianity was all about, but I really didn't, and I am still learning today.

Either you got the wrong impression or you have been hanging around the wrong person. Non-Christians can easily understand the Bible, they just don't believe in it and prefer not to live that type of life.

The statement is not meant to offend, merely state a fact from the Bible. Unless one is a Christan, one cannot be filled with the Holy Spirit, and therefore have even a smidgen of Godly understanding. Spiritual things are spiritual, and worldly things are worldly.
The knowledge of Spiritual things does not require full understanding of them, only a desire to accept teachings based of faith today. I know it sounds like circular thinking, but here's the verse to ponder:

I dont claim to be an expert in science and most Christians other than Christian scientists dont claim that either.
If you do understand the Bible, tell me what 1Corinthians1 means. This is why we feel most wont understand, until their hearts are made anew by G-d. Its spiritual, not intellectual at all. Please dont take it as an insult to intellegence at all. It is not.
Blessings, sorry if anyone hurt you brother.
