A nanny lives there a sitter dosent

Well i think a Nanny is a more personable care taker, they are more involved in the daily activities of the children and household, in most cases they live with the family and become part of the family. A sitter is more temporary, less involved in the family activities and structure. The sitter can have a deep relationship with the family but the Nanny will have a deeper one because they are included in the majority of how the household is ran.

A nanny generally lives with a family full time, a sitter is just there when the parents are working or are going out without the kids

A nanny is someone who cares for children and it is their career. A sitter is someone who occassionally watches children, but doesn't plan on doing it as a full-time job.

A nanny is NOT someone who lives there...they CAN live there, but not usually. At least not where I'm from.

This is something from the website www.canadiannanny.ca:

Q: What are the differences between Au Pairs, Nannies, and Mother Helpers?
A: An au pair typically has basic childcare experience. An Au pair is often coming to stay with a family for a cultural exchange / childcare work and experience for one year. Au pairs typically don't make a career out of childcare work as nannies do.
A: Nannies have several years of childcare experience. Nannies are not necessarily seeking a cultural exchange; rather, it is the long-term career-building experience in childcare they are seeking.
A: A Mothers helper is when a nanny is hired to assist the mother with childcare and household needs. The mother is in the home majority of the time.

As a babysitter I just watch the kids and do not take professional responsibility for their overall emotional needs. When hired as a nanny I am hired as a professional with credentials and give guidance and advice when asked by the parents.

As a Nanny I feel like am more of a substitute parent when needed and participate in the child's upbringing if this is wanted by the parents. Nannies usually work regular longer hours. I have worked in both capacities and have come up with this interpretation. Nannies also tend to be more a part of the families, even if they are not live in assistants.
Different familes have individual needs that require assistance.
Happy Holidays!

A nanny is with the child more like an alternative guardian when the parents aren't available. They help with homework, know the child's schedule and personality. A sitter is someone who is there just to watch the child(ren) usually because they are too young to stay alone.
