Are you in high school, wanting to get into a good college? Then a D in history is a big deal. If that is your final grade, it is not good. If it was just on one test, then you can still recover. I think your parents expect more of you and know that you can do better, so that is why they are upset with you. If they knew that you cannot make anything higher than a D due to your lack of intelligence, then they wouldn't be so upset. You should be thankful that you have parents who care enough to get upset with you when you don't do your best. Some young people have parents who don't care about their grades or their futures. Yours do, so try harder the next time!

See, the reasons your parents are mad at you is because they want to excel in high school or college and a D is not excelling. A D is one away from an F, a D means barely passing. A C is average a B is good and a A is the best. They have every right to be mad because they probably think you are not applying yourself to your fullest potential. I think in order to get them unmad at you is to sit down with them and just explain to them why you have a D in history and that you will try to bring up that grade. They just want the best for you. They want you to do good in schooling because it WILL matter for the rest of your life. Doing good in school means going to a good college, which means getting a decent job when you're older. If you are getting this grade in history because you dont understand it, then i would suggest getting a tutor. If you are getting this grade because you are not applying yourself(basically it means your smart but your not trying) then thats just dumb, make your parents proud and get a good grade!!!! Good luck!

A D is not a passing grade but everyone has their own nitche in life and if you tried your hardest and got a D then you did all that you could do. On the other hand if you slacked off didn't take the time to study or do homework then it is a big deal and you need to start thinking about your plans for the future and how you can only get by with passing grades. Good Luck to you in the future!

I ignored history in high school and college. Got by with decent grades, but I didn't learn anything.

Now, I'm thinking I could really use more history knowledge. If I had it, I'd understand the situation in Iraq with more depth than what we're given in the media. I'd also be able to make better decisions when voting.

So, yeah, I think it's a huge deal because they might have experienced the same thing I have in life.

Plus, good grades will take you far in college.

Yes it is a big deal. Quit being a moron and apply yourself a little more. History was fairly easy for me, but my big problem was English. I wished to God that I had only paid more attention because now I like to write and wish that my grammatical skills were a lot better. You NEVER know what kind of curve ball life will throw you. Be smart!

Perhaps a single C is no big deal, but a D signals laziness or not caring. You may need to wake up and try harder.

If you're a good student, a C might indicate you're having a hard time.

A D is a problem and your parents are right.

I'm actually in university studying history... It's a good idea to have as well rounded an education as possible, because once you hit the post-secondary schools, you will not get the chance to take these courses again.

Yes, you should listen to your parents. Obviously they know you better than all of us, and their advice should be held it the utmost respect. It sounds like this may be unusual for you, and that this concerns them. Work with them, and not against them.

History might appear to be nothing but the past but it is actually a pretty big deal. History shows us how far we have come and what people have gone through before us. It shows how we lived and who we were. It helps us work out how we got to be where we are today and who we are today. Dont underestimate history, it will be useful to you for your whole life :)

Even if your getting straight A's in every other subject a d can skew your GPA and that is the difference of thousands of dollars if your parents need you to get a scholarship for college. That's alot of money to not care about. That is how it is in the real world. If you don't care you will see that on the bottom line of your paycheck. Don't whine when you cannot afford what you want.
