When discussing why we have too much religion in our govenment with Christians, I constantly hear that "this country was founded on Christian principles." When I start bringing up all of these bad things that were going on (when this country was established) like slavery and killing and/or taking land from tens of thousands of Native Americans, they don't quite know what to say. What do you say?

Objectively, slavery is not exactly a religious implement, it is a societal one. Almost civic. Slavery has been going on for hundreds of centuries, before Christianity and will continue on after Christianity. It is a governmental institution that has always been in practice since before Egypt was a world power in the day of the pharohs. It is all about the master and servant, if you have someone domineering....there is always someone subserviant to the dominant. And in order to be subserviant you have to allow yourself to be subserviant.

I won't lie and say people placed themselves in that role, since many people of all races, creeds, religions and gender was forcibly inserted in those places. But that is absolutely about rulership, not about religion.

I will point out that most of our founding fathers were not "christian" persay, but deists, who believed in the agnostic form of righteousness not in the righteousness of the unseen.

America was founded not on christian principles, but on socital do's and don'ts. It was freedom of religious persecution that inticed many here, not the founding of one straight mainstream thought.

It is okay to be a Christian.....but it is equally okay to not be a Christian. Atleast it is now and not during the superstitious mob days.

It was Christian principles that fought againts slavery. It is Christians today that are standing against genocide (abortion). The country was founded on Christian principles. What bad things did christian principles institute when this country was founded?

well, the Bible god condones and encourages both slavery and genocide so i guess Bible Believing Christians believe that slavery and genocide are okay. but some will no doubt say that it was the culture and the era so no longer applies but how come that doesn't work for gay bashing isn't explained.
