Snoring is the act of breathing through the open mouth in such a way as to cause a vibration of the uvula and soft palate, thus giving rise to a sound which may vary from a soft noise to a loud unpleasant sound. This most commonly occurs during sleep.
The cause of snoring is some kind of blockage in the breathing passage.
Snoring cures almost all revolve around clearing the blockage in the breathing passage. This is the reason snorers are advised to lose weight (to stop fat from pressing on the throat), to stop smoking (smoking weakens and clogs the throat), and to sleep on their side (to prevent the tongue from blocking the throat). Mostly it will reduce if you take precautions for these.
Surgery is another option to cure snoring (for example a uvulopalatopharyngoplasty); dental appliances such as a mandibular advancement splint are another. There are many devices such as nose clips to keep the nose open and jaw mechanics to keep the jaw in the right position. A pinky ring is purported to reduce snoring through accupressure. Different aids work for different people. According to the British Medical Journal, playing the didgeridoo can also help-.

Snoring is not something to take lightly. The reason a person snores is either their tongue falls back into their throat or they have narrowed passages or suffer from sleep apnea. Continued snoring every night is a sign of possible sleep apnea which is a serious condition. The person who snores may actually stop breathing at times and be sustaining organ (heart, brain, lung) damage from lack of oxygen. It is important to have a "sleep apnea" test done to determine that. Sleep apnea is a life threatening condition. If sleep apnea is ruled out then you can try the adhesive strips that go across the nose to help keep it open. Also sleeping on ones side help keep the tongue from falling back into the throat.

My husband uses the Breath Right strips. When he doesn't use them he snores louder. He still snores with them on, but not as bad.

If you are in the UK you must have access to 24-hour Veterinary services. All vets are compelled to have this cover even when out of hours. Just phone your surgery and you will either speak to your own Practice or be given a number of a Duty vet who is on call
