why do you decorate a pine tree to celebrate?

It is not really a Christian festival in the true sense. The Romans took pagan festivals and (after Rome became officially Christian) turned them into Christian celebrations.

The custom of taking greenery into the house in the middle of winter began in Germany I believe.

Did you know that Santa Claus only got a red oufit since Coca-Cola adverts in the 1930s?

Various kinds of fir, spruce and pine trees are used. They are different species in Europe from those in North America.

Before I began studying and practicing the Craft, I decorated the tree as a symbol of the new life brought by Jesus (just as I decorated eggs at Easter) Now I do it both for that reason and as an acknowledgment and a tribute to the Earth and all of nature.

I do it because it is just a family tradition. It's pretty but it holds no other special meaning for me.Christians like to celebrate with family too.
