While we play most instruments, the piano is different. You do not play the piano, .... you play at the piano.
to say "toco el piano" (I play the piano) would be literally conveying that you pick up a huge piano and play it like a Bag Pipe.
The correct answer is: "Toco al piano."
Do not use "Yo" unless you want to be rude.
To say, "Yo toco al piano" could be very rude, it would imply that the person you are talking to does not play the piano very well. Or, it could mean that you are bragging that you can and he can't.
You will notice in conversation spanish. Yo is seldom used. It is not needed, and you have spent all that time conjugating verbs so simply use the correct tense and go go go. Plus it will help you to eventually speak spanish faster.
