One answer is difficult for a Labrador Retriever owner, I think he'd eat most anything if I allowed him to. 9 out of 10 I catch this almost 2 yr old, I know the sound of happy feet romping in celebration! Or the questioning quietness gone on way too long. We have a "give" (command) corner in the house where I open his jaw to pry out whatever has been snatched. I've gotten quite good at it, must admit. Socks are snatched on a regular basis, loves the fluffy ones best. List includes, but not limited to, whatever can be left sitting on the sofa from kids. Yogurt foil top yesterday. Wrappers from anything already eaten, crunchy wrappers get my attention & he knows it. A guest child left a Nintendo DS Lite game lay on the sofa after being warned not to. Yep, I got it back from Jack, chewed up. That day I spent $35 replacing a much loved game. Oh, of course there's been Legos. The one summer day he swiped a Webkinz from kid's bedroom floor(bedroom door left open) - couldn't be a cheap stuffed animal, no, and one of the kids left the house door wide open so Jack romped outside with it. Yes, I got that back too, hole punctured & slobbered. "Stink Bugs". These bugs make noise when they fly around, smell odd when they are squooshed. Jack will hear one or see one hit the ceiling and try and make a jump for it. Like the Lady Bug these are more of a nuisance than anything in our area. He likes cardboard boxes, chews up tiny pieces into spit wads, and well, spits 'em out. Almost sat on this little brown something the one night. I smelled it to confirm it was not poo. Nope, it was a cardboard spit wad. Early puppy days: He chewed up a rubber banded pile of my favorite writing pencils, pencil pieces all over the carpet. Chewed a pen, pen leaked on the carpet. Caught a bunny, killed it. I retrieved it with the help of a neighbor & lots of praise. Oh he thought that was fun, tossing it up in the air was more interesting than eating it surprisingly.

He could be eating it for any number of reasons. In general, dogs eat weird things because animals in nature usually have to be curious about what they can or can't eat to survive. Your dog probably eats it because poo encroaches on territory. Even if it's cat poo, another animal's poo makes dogs feel like they're being invaded (you know how animals pee to mark territory), so by eating it he probably thinks he can stop the cat from digging her claws into his turf. Either that...or he likes the taste. My dog eats her own poo, maybe 'cause she's looking for a snack, or wants to recycle some of that good stuff she had for dinner. Heck, even my turtles eat their own and each other's poo.

Dogs are scavengers, meaning they will eat whatever they can get, whenever they can get it. In nature, dogs' ancestors never knew where their next meal was coming from.
Also, I suspect that cat poos probably taste like cat food. And dogs love cat food!

The dogs probably still smell the cat food in the poo. They think its a circular jerky treat.

Remember, dogs are driven by their sense of smell. Chances are your pup's eating the weird stuff because it smells nice to him.
