*waits for you after class so you can walk to class together

*invites you to a party that she claims is 'gonna be boring' because there will be nobody her age.
(supossing the girl is a sort of-friend)

not really it sounds like a friends. Guys do the stuff u mention with each other and they are straight, there just friends. u have nothing to worry about u sound like a friend

It is desperate only if the boy is not initiating the same type of closeness. It should be a give and take whether it is friendship or relationship (boyfriend/girlfriend).

well. I wouldn't say that you are desperate, but if the guy is feeling smothered or he thinks you're desperate, lay off a bit. there is nothing more threatening to guys than a girl who knows what she wants and takes charge.
don't worry about it. just be casual.
