The Mormon Church has not always allowed blacks...do the research. Also read a book called "Under the Banner Of Heaven" if you want some truth about the Mormon church.

"Under The Banner Of Heaven" is a book well researched by the author about the history, beliefs and practices of the LDS (Mormon) religion from the beginning.
It is not a book designed to cause you believe or not believe the religion, it is a very interesting book written on fact. You choose what to think of it.

Actually, the Prophet proclaimed the ability of blacks to become Mormon and to receive the Aaronic priesthood during the time of the civil rights movement in the 1960's. As far as Gays go, they are allowed to be LDS and even to hold office as long as they do not actively practice their sexual preference.

Blacks have always been able to join the church. However, it was not until the mid 80's that Black men were allowed to hold the Priesthood. In my opinion this was because it wasn't until then that the world was able to truely accept Blacks as just another person and not a different type of person. But that's my opinion and I could be wrong.
As for gays, the church's position is that non-practicing gays are welcome. Practicing gays are not. It is therefore the stance of the church that homosexuality is a choice, not something a person is born with.

On June 8, 1978, the First Presidency of the LDS Church released an official declaration:
>He has heard our prayers, and by revelation has confirmed that the long-promised day has come when every faithful, worthy man in the Church may receive the holy priesthood, with power to exercise its divine authority, and enjoy with his loved ones every blessing that follows there from, including the blessings of the temple. Accordingly, all worthy male-members of the Church may be ordained to the priesthood without regard for race or color. Priesthood leaders are instructed to follow the policy of carefully interviewing all candidates for ordination to either the Aaronic or the Melchizedek Priesthood to insure that they meet the established standards for worthiness.
Regarding gay members, there is no prohibition on membership in the LDS Church for those who consider themselves gay. Rather, the LDS Church teaches that sexual relations unless with your spouse is immoral and an affront to God. It also teaches that any sexual relations between members of the same sex are immoral. The basis for this teaching comes from the ancient church and the law of chastity as taught in the Old Testament.
While engaging in sexual relations is always a choice (unless forced), whether or not someone has a greater desire than someone else to engage in same-sex acts is up for debate. The LDS Church does not take a stand on that issue.

I believe they were always allowed to join the church but not hold the Priesthood. They were allowed to hold the Priesthood in the 1980s I think.
I am sure there are gay Mormons already.
Why would I read the book you suggested instead of talk to someone from the church?

maximum significant religions had what you will possibly evaluate "racist" practices on the books, as much as c4de8ced6214345614d33fb0b16a8acdc4de8ced6214345614d33fb0b16a8acdc4de8ced6214345614d33fb0b16a8acd8. Why is the Mormon faith being singled out here? besides, in case you knew something of the Mormon faith, you will possibly understand that there are over 500,000 black individuals, including many church and native leaders. you will possibly additionally understand that the Mormon Church strongly prohibits racism and prejudice. it may well be stated that the subject grow to be certainly one of relatives tree and not pores and skin pigmentation. as an occasion, Black adult males from non-African descent have been allowed to hold the priesthood. on the different hand, Caucasian, Asian, and Hispanic adult males who had some Black African ancestry weren't allowed to hold the priesthood. in view that c4de8ced6214345614d33fb0b16a8acdc4de8ced6214345614d33fb0b16a8acdc4de8ced6214345614d33fb0b16a8acd8, all individuals of the Church have been eligible to take part in all priesthood and temple advantages. Blacks, including African races, have continually (the two formerly and after c4de8ced6214345614d33fb0b16a8acdc4de8ced6214345614d33fb0b16a8acdc4de8ced6214345614d33fb0b16a8acd8) been allowed baptism in the Church. as nicely, at the same time as many denominations have traditionally segregated their church homes (i.e., blacks in one construction, whites in yet another), Latter-day Saints have continually had an integrated congregation. President Spencer W. Kimball taught: "Intolerance by employing Church individuals is despicable. a particular situation exists with appreciate to blacks by way of fact they won't now [c4de8ced6214345614d33fb0b16a8acdc4de8ced6214345614d33fb0b16a8acdc4de8ced6214345614d33fb0b16a8acdc4de8ced6214345614d33fb0b16a8acd] acquire the priesthood. some individuals of the Church might justify their own un-Christian discrimination against blacks by way of fact of that rule with appreciate to the priesthood, yet at the same time as this restrict has been imposed by employing the Lord, this isn't any longer for us to function burdens upon the shoulders of our black brethren. They who've gained Christ in faith by using authoritative baptism are heirs to the celestial kingdom alongside with adult males of all different races. and people who proceed to be honest to the tip would assume that God would finally furnish all of them advantages they have merited by using their righteousness. Such concerns are in the Lord's palms. it particularly is for us to strengthen our like to all."

The guy was giving his speech to the newcomers and i was like...' Im Ryan and im Mormon. See, thats why i can smile like this'. It was funny.
At the end he had a few people crying. And he was like...do you feel comfy here and all this. I liked it, but i had to change. Degrassi was on.
