One ceremony occurs four days after a child's birth. The parents touch the baby's feet to the ground for the first time and give an offering to the spirits for the gift of the child's life. It allows the baby to be formally introduced and acknowledged in that world.

Another well-known ceremony they followed was the Sundance, where dancers would fast, dance, go without sleep, and give flesh offerings for four days as an acknowledgement and thanksgiving for life.

A third ceremony is the pipe ceremony, which helps a person prepare to die. In it, a bundle is brought in to the person, containing a pipe, sacred tobacco, and various offerings for the Creator. The sick person is supposed to repent or make right his relationship with the Creator. Sacred medicines are burned and everyone prays for the person's safe passage to the sky world. Songs are sung and each family member has an opportunity to speak to the person. Together, the family keeps vigil until the spirit leaves the body.
