Alcohol is an astringent and will overdry the ear and that can actually make it susceptible to infection. The only thing that will help an infection is an antibiotic. Letting an ear infection go untreated can lead to much worse complications including the infection spreading to the throat and even to the spinal canal and brain. Their is an old saying that you should never put anything into your ear smaller than your elbow and that is true. Anything put into your ear such as a Q-tip can induce bacteria into the ear and open the way for infection. If you have ears that trouble you and you feel the need to "dig" at them then get some wax softening drops at the pharmacy (no prescription needed) and put a few drops into your ears over several days. After a few days, get a baby ear syringe and squirt some warm (NOT HOT) water into your ear to flush out the softened wax. Better yet to go to the doctor to let them do it for you. You can use the drops to prevent wax from building up but do NOT poke around in your ear or you will make it much worse and can even lose your hearing from repeated infections.

Do not put alcohol in your ear as this could really hurt and will not help an infection. If you really must try something at home use dilute tea tree oil or put the full strength oil on a cotton ball and insert that into your ear. If you truely have an infection though I would recommend having the doctor check it as left untreated you can wind up with a ruptured ear drum or some permanent hearing loss.

don't do that, don't use peroxide either, and stop putting things (Q-tips included) in the ear. Best thing is to get some advice from a doctor. If you use anything to strip out the earwax you pave a new road for more infection. Usually a doctor will perscribe an anitibiodic, and something to help with drainage. sometimes they recomend you use "sweet oil" in your ear and plug it with a sterile cotton ball. you can find the oil in a pharmacy or pharmacy isle.

It's not alcohol. It's hydrogen peroxide. But you need the advise of an ear specialist before doing this.

Yikes!!!!!!! Who is giving you this information? If you truly have an infection you will need an antibiotic. Start with your regular doctor, or see a specialist in ear-nose-throat. Don't try any home remedies

Alcohol will not harm your ears. That is what's used to prevent swimmer's ear. It dries up the water.
Here is some good information on ear infections: http://ecdc.tamucc.edu/HELP/ear/nursenotes.html
