Waw... this was a good question...
First thing...
Pbuh, is for prophets, and yes, it shouldn't be used exept for addressing prophets.
Second..
(SWT), is only used when refering to God.
Peace.

the islam greeting is:ASSALAMU ALAYKUM
'Peace be upon you' the greeting of the muslim
[the reply is 'wa alaikumus salam' which means 'and peace be upon you. The fuller version reads, 'assalam u alaikum wa rahmatulahi wa baakatuhu' which means 'peace be upon you and the blessings and mercy of Alllah' the reply is 'wa alaikumus salam wa rahmatulahi wa baakatuhu']
we wish peace for everyone.
but,Peace be upon him (Arabic: salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam, also transliterated as sallalahu aleyhi wasallam or salallahu alayhi wasalaam) is a phrase that Muslims are required to say after mentioning the name of the Islamic prophets such as Muhammad, Jesus Christ, Abraham and all the other prophets cited in the Qur'an.
and,SUBHANAHU WA TA'ALA-
'Glorified is He and exalted,' an expression that muslims use when the name of Allah is pronounced or written
[this us usually abbreviated as (swt)]
peace sister.

Yes. For any person who has died, allah yerhamo is an appropriate response. (May God bless him).
PBUH is usually reserved to the prophet, although I have in rare occasions heard it used for Moses, Abraham, or Jesus. The most common phrase to use after a prphet's name is Aaleyhy as-salat was-salam, or Radiallah anhu (May God shine, bless upon him)

good question! i have no certain answer but i know we are commanded by God to ask for blessings on the prophets.
i also know that the shia'h Muslims use (upon him be peace) after mentioning the name of Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) and some other Imams.
i think it's ok to use it as greeting like (peace be upon you). SWT is for God only not humans.
it means (Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala )<< "glorious and exalted is He (Allah)."

In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful
Abraham said, 'Peace be upon thee. I will ask forgiveness of my Lord for thee. He is indeed gracious to me;
Those whom the angels cause to die while they are pure, they say to them, 'Peace be unto you. Enter Heaven because of what you used to do.'
