Until my college years, I was a hardcore, YEC, fundamentalist, Southern Baptist. And then I began to become more and more moderate throughout college. I became seriously involved with a girl who was an atheist and asked me a lot of questions.

Irony was I didn't become an atheist until after our breakup, when I picked up George H. Smith's Atheism: A Case Against God. And thus began my journey.

Of course, many would say that I was never a "real" christian, but that's not fair to say as a) it's the "true Scotsman" fallacy and b) they don't know me.

Another christian turned atheist (I know of several but only one pops to mind at this moment) is Dan Barker (http://www.ffrf.org/about/bio_dan.php) who was a minister. In fact, many churches still use the musicals he wrote when he was a christian.

non secular concept isn't a demonstration of intelligence. God calls us yet just some answer the call. i've got self belief it has extra to do including your rearing. in case you come from a relatives crammed with God's love, the place miracles are conventional, you have an extra handy time accepting the fact. in case you arise in a Godless domicile, the place cynicism and disbelief are uncomplicated, then it might stand to reason that atheism might result devoid of outdoors interference. those are no longer absolutes. i've got self belief that everyone who examines the data devoid of bias knows that it particularly is a designed universe. yet they do no longer understand what to do with that information. in the event that they actually persevered on the path to fact it might bring about self turning out to be much less significant and the deity assuming that function. it might additionally require ethical alignment that's uncomfortable. for this reason we are in a position to envision horoscopes and tarot enjoying cards without social backlash; they require no ethical replace.

Yes, of course it is. Here's why:

2 Timothy 3

Godlessness in the Last Days

1 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.
6 They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over weak-willed women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, 7 ALWAYS LEARNING BUT NEVER ABLE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE TRUTH. 8 Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these men oppose the truth—men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected. 9 But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those men, their folly will be clear to everyone.
