Dogs do this behavior for more than one reason. one is that there is something lacking in their diet so they eat there feces to fulfill that need. The other reason is something that I accidentally caused with my rottie pup. I yelled at him one for having an accident on the ground, he cowered and ran away. The next time he had an accident he pooped on the floor when I came over he got really scared and began to eat it. When you yell at an animal for an accident they will tend to try and hide the evidence from you, by going behind a couch, in a corner, or even eating it. I stopped this behavior by instead of yelling at him just saying a firm no and bringing him outside saying you go potty outside and then reward him when he does. I hope his helps you!

I am not to sure of this behavior, but has she been punished for makeing a mess on the floor? If so she may be trying to hide it, esp if you showed any anger toward her when you noticed it! Also dogs eat poop when they have a mineral deficiancy, yes even thier own poop, they are trying to supplement themselves, as gross as it sounds. try putting her on a better food if that is the case. If its the other and depending on how old the dog is, just work on the potty training and dont hit her or punish. Dont even get mad if you didnt catch her in the act. she wont know what you are talking about or mad about just take her outside and letter her finish her duties

There can be two reasons. 1.Your dog is lacking certain necessary vitamins and minerals in its diet. If this behaviour persists a visit to the vet is in order. 2.Your dog is very stressed. This is common for overly stressed dogs.
Their are over the counter products that stop this behaviour.

Most likely because she new it was wrong and so you would not disapline her for doing it she was showing you she would clean it up!! Also she may have been so desperate for a number 2 that she had no choice but to do it on the floor!! x

First off, it actually is somewhat normal for dogs to eat theirs and other dogs' feces. The term for it is Coprophagia, and it is oftentimes prompted by malnutrition of sorts.
There are a couple of things that you can do to prevent Coprophagia:
1) Change your dog's diet-- perhaps it is eating too much protein.
2) Put rock sulpher in the dog's water
3) Immediately clean up said dog defacation
I googled it, and attached a link for further info. Hope this helps.

Sounds like your dog was ashamed and wanted to hide the evidence!! Try not to be cross with her if she does it again and praise her like mad when she does her toilets in the proper place, like your garden. Make sure you are taking your dog out to the garden often enough as well - sometimes you just gotta go though!!! Good luck :)

She must be knowing that you will be annoyed when you see no.2 on the floor. Your dog really knows you very well.

i don't know. my dog licks her own vomit, but i think that is a natural instinct because dogs think they are losing food they had eaten and since they don't want to starve they lick it up. of course my portly little dog will never starve so i don't let her lick it up. however #2 is waste, not nutrients, so i don't know why your dog would eat it.
However dogs do eat horse manure, so maybe what your dog did isn't so odd. I wouldn't let her do it though. My dog eats horse manure then tries to lick me.....eeeeww....

The dog has been punished for doing it before, so she removed it before she is punished again.
My older dog did this once when her baby done it on my carpet, she ate it and kept leaking the carpet clean to stop me punishing her baby.
Best to hurry and clean it before she eats again. It is not healthy for her. No, it is not normal just out of fear.
