The clay pit in my opinion was good, but I found that the flavours were a bit toned down (I am half Indian) apart from that I thought that the restaurant, though cool, was too busy and bustling for me to relax. The Star of India on the other hand was pretty good and more affordable than The Clay Pit. Another one that is ok is Sarovar, but I would go with the star of india if you want something more authentic. Happy eating!

There is also a Star of India on Anderson Ln. in north-central Austin. They have a really good lunch buffet compared to others in town.

The Clay Pit... authentic and good service (this from friends who are actually from India). They serve family style so it's easy to order too much... but also easy to try each other's food.

We like Madras Pavilion at Burnet and Research(183).
It is vegetarian, and I prefer their dinner menu to their lunch buffet.
