Other than the transmission needing replaced, the car is in reasonably good condition considering it has 144,000 miles. Kelly Blue Book value is @ $2500 in poor-fair condition but that is rough b/c no specific questions about the transmission were asked and that is the only major thing wrong with the car. There is also a small dent on the front right bumper. Should I donate it, try to sell it, or use a 3rd party such as Carmax or caralternative.com? I still owe $1700 on it and would like to get enough money through the best means to pay off the remaining debt if possible. I didn't trade the car in when I bought my new car because I bought the new car in a different state and the cost of towing would have been a nightmare. This is the first car I've had to get rid of. Your advice will be most appreciated.

I would only sell it on Ebay with a reserve of the amount you still owe plus Ebay costs OR advertise it as "take over payments" if the lender will allow you to do this.

I would try Ebay. Seems like that is where you will get someone willing to pay some good money even if the vehicle is not in running condition. I would guess in the state it is in now, you may get close to a grand for it.

I would put it in the local paper or weekly sales paper for $1800 and see what happens.
