What room is it?
Green and blue are relaxing colours good for bedrooms.
Red is a conversation enhancing colour, good for dining rooms and living rooms.
Yellow is a creative colour, good for kitchens and other areas that need you to use your creativity.
Colours from the warm side of the colour wheel will make a cold room or overly large room feel warmer and more cosy. Colours from the cold side of the wheel will make a warm room feel cooler and will make it seem larger.
The best way of picking colours for a room is to sit in the room in question and look through books and magazines - look at pictures of flowers, landscapes, rooms, people and everything. Choose pictures that make you feel comfortable and then take the picture to a colour consultant at your local hardware store and they can pull colours out of the picture to create a colour scheme for you.
I have just painted a bedroom and living room in the following colours from Resene paints
Lemongrass - 1 main feature wall
Coconut cream - remainding walls
High Gloss Black White - architraves.
It is a very classy and realxing look. Kind of victorian looking if you have moulded architraves. Here is the web address if you want to look at the colours.

Many people paint a room based on their favorite colors, or based on their style. Me for example, i did an olive green color in my room, typical to the colors you'd find in homes in italy, because of my cultural background. I suggest a color that is easy to match with things, because otherwise it will be a pain to have to buy all new stuff. Or if you already do, some colors are hard to find!

Orange, with brown trim.
Red, with white or yellow trim.
Red.
Black.
Chartreuse.
I am thinking about getting that special paint that you can use to paint your walls, and they will be chalkboard surfaces. You can use your walls as a chalkboard if you paint with this. It is available at home depot, in black, green, and other colors. It is probably the exact same kind of paint used to surface the chalkboards in schools.
I want chalkboard walls, and recommend them to you. That way you won't ever have to buy a posterboard to put messages on, you can just write them on your wall.
Be well.

my sister just painted her room with earth tones... it's so sexy! I mean it's just restful and immediately when I walk in her room it's like okay this is a place for escaping the world and cozying up and even making love... no negative energy allowed. it's likepeanut brittle color with a pearly faux wash up high towards the ceiling and trimmed in a chocolate at her base boards and her bedroom set is a deep walnut with nickle fixtures and accents. I so want to move in there!

If you are wanting a color, pick a color from your bedding or curtains. Maybe a pillow that you have or something that is going in your room that you will be basing decorating around. Good luck and have fun. I am fixing to be doing my daughter's and son's rooms her in the next couple of months...I am so excited.
