Gametes join together during plant and animal reproduction to form a Zygote. The male SPERM and the female EGG are called 'gametes'. When they join together they form 1 cell, a diploid (seperately-- they are haploid 1/2 a chromosome set)

Zygotes are the product (as in: they are produced) during plant fertilization.

a zygote is the product of the fusion of the male and female gametes(sperm and ovum) after fertilization.

a zygote is a diploid cell formed due to the fusion of haploid cells (sperm and ovum) the zygote further developes into the plant through the sporophytic stage.the stage before this is the gametophytic stage.it differs from lower to higher plants.
