AVG is an anti-virus, windows defender is more for spyware, I would just keep it. Also I would download either adaware or spybot you can find both at www.download.com

Windows Defender is just a beta program and honestly it's not that good. AVG Free, which I use, is good but doesnt show any threats for me. You can remove Windows Defender, and keep AVG if you like that program. Also, for spyware, you'd need another program as AVG does not catch everything that other programs will catch.

Use both. AVG is an anti-virus app. Defender is an anti-spyware app.

You need both !

They should both be run together as they accomplish different tasks. AVG is your antivirus software so it will detect viruses. Windows Defender is for spyware and malware detection. If you are looking for a complete all in one solution then you can look into Windows OneCare. It combines antivirus with spyware detection and updates on a regular basis.
