When i was in highschool, i remember in my freshman english class our teacher handed out a worksheet with 6 numbered columns. the title of the paper was, what did god create on those specific days. I was incredibly confused and did not know what to write at all. As we didn't even read any books in class that talked about this. This was the first day of class.

She gave us 10 minutes to fill out our answers and when time was up, she went around the room and asked people for answers. She went down the rows and eventually it was my turn. She asked me what happened on the third day. I told her that i dont know. Suddenly the class started laughing and whispering gossip around me. The teacher was also amused and asked me if i was serious. I remember feeling really uncomfortable.

At the end of class, we had to turn in the papers. I didn't think that it would count as an assignment, but at the end of the month i found a big fat "F" on that particular assignment.

I had "A"s on everything, and because of that particular assignment my grade was lowered to a B-.

Note, my highschool is a public highschool. Arcadia High School in Arcadia, CA.

Were my religious freedoms violated?

just because the area or the way you grew up in happened to be VERY christian oriented doesnt mean EVERY OTHER PLACE ON EARTH knows ANYTHING about YOUR religion. have you ever stopped to think about maybe this person wasnt born and raised in a christian based surrounding??? thats like if a teacher handed out papers about buddhism on the first day of school...in a public school and asked you to answer buddhism questions on philosophy...you wouldnt know much about it!! esp if your just a highschool student FRESHMAN YEAR who grew up in a christian oriented area. and how dare u actually judge someone and thier family for not knowing the christian gospel. its people like you that make me sick! grow up and travel around the world you sheltered moron.

Yes, as I see you are in a public school, you are violated in your religious rights. You are not supposed to assignments on religion without even learning it in class. I guess if you learn about other religions, it is OK, but just doing an assignment on a religion's text without even learning it in class? on the first day? Now that is religious freedom violating.

But if this when you are in high school and know you aren't in it, then I would advise you to leave it alone and think about more important things about life other than bad memories.

Were you in a parochial school. I've never heard of a public school teacher teaching on the Genesis Theory.

Secondly, I'm sorry that you had a negative experience in the private school. But in the title you say it was a homework assignment. If so, why didn't you check this out in the Bible? If it were a math assignment you would have been expected to check the textbook. So, why didn't you take the time to read the assignment, or ask the teacher before class about the assignment?

Dunno about you, but I've been in school almost five months now. How long has this issue been in the air? Have you done anything about it? You run the risk of not being taken seriously if you bother yourself about it now, since clearly it wasn't that big a deal to you if you put up with it all this time.

But, if this is a public school, and that assignment had no application to class work or themes, and she has continually made religious knowledge or lack thereof a big issue in class, then by all means speak up!

(BTW, I've never seen a dinky little worksheet bring down a grade two friggin letters)

The handiest failure you'll have as a Christian is the unforgivable sin of rejecting the Holy Spirit. You have your whole lifetime to paintings on Christianity. If you actually search out God and be given His steering you'll now not be rejecting the Holy Spirit. Remember, handiest Jesus was once superb. No one else has ever or will ever be superb once more even as sin reigns on this planet. You would inform the ones men and women in the event that they uncover the prefect church, do not become a member of it. If they do then it may not be superb any further. The factor is the ones men and women you stated are commonly your younger peers. They have to be trained knowledge earlier than giving well recommendation. Remember, handiest God can pass judgement on. Mankind does now not have this proper. We do not poses the knowledge to pass judgement on. No, your constitutional rights were violated!

Didn't you take American History? There is something called separation of church and state which restricts religion from being taught in the classroom. If this story is true, you can easily fight this grade, and have it taken off your record.

The teacher may be in for some (well deserved) disciplinary action as well.

Urgh. That was wrong. Just because you didn't know about it, that doesn't mean you deserved an F. I would have talked to the teacher afterwords and explained to her that you did not know the answers because it was not in your religion, and although you respect her religion, you don't care for the way she was forcing it upon others. I would have also told her, not in a polite voice either, that you had been informed that it was an English class, not a religion class and that you would be talking to the principal about her teaching methods.

The teacher violated the separation of church and state. She cannot test students on their religious knowledge unless it is a class on, for example, comparative religion.

you didn't say how old are you and you never mention which religion you belong. And reaching third year high school, it would be impossible that you do not know Jesus and the book of Genesis....what did your parents doing.... it is their responsibility of your spiritual knowledge ...at least to introduce to you God and how we were created..... in the book of genesis it was all written.... i guess this things happen to you...not because of any circumstances...maybe God wants to wake you up and search for Him.

Take care and God Bless!....

If that happened to me I would've flipped my desk over, screamed at the teacher and storm out, slamming the door behind me.

Your rights were violated, for sure.
